So the car is Sick

Post by catsflap » Mon Apr 23, 2007 6:33 pm

Car booked in today for a small rattle, and knocking from the steering column when warm.

Phone call this afternoon, front suspension arms are the problem, and are on back order 7-10 days....

So stuck with an A8 for the time whilst parts arive.

I've only done 500 miles in the car, as i'm the second owner, so just a bit worried why the Audi approved car status did not pick this up.

Have to say that the whole experience from teh dealer has been first class, so just want the motor back.

Anyone else had similar type problems?

My RS4 is due to go into Audi for a recall and ive pointed out a few warranty issues as i have the knocking on the front suspension.
I also have the squeeky drivers seat, a notchy gearbox when cold, a pull to the left when driving and so on.
Love the car, bit dissapointed in the niggles though as its only 8 months old!
Iam a Director of a VW/AUDI specialist so hopefully the dealers will do their job as we will know if they dont and hopefully they wont try and fob us off. If push comes to shove we will rectify the issues our self just a bit miffed at that prospect given its a £50k car.

Steering knock is a known problem and replacement of bottom arms solves the problem, as is the cold gearbox problem. You can put up with this or elect to have the oil changed to a lighter grade. The dealer really should have performed all the upgrades before selling the car, I suggest you ask them to check for any further upgrades and apply them to the car before collecting it. There has been several software issues that spring to mind......including the TMC upgrade which they should have supplied.

I am picking up my car this coming sat, is there a list of all know upgrades anywhere, I would be keen to run thru this with the dealer before I get there....

Thanks

Jason

What sort of rattle was it? I have a rumble/rattle on mine in the rear passenger wheel arch area. Had the seats down etc and everything out of the boot but can't find it. Only happens over a bump but the bump needs to be a minor one, large bumps it's fine.

rattle is from front....... starts as gentle knock on lock and becomes solid bang on the smallest of road dips..... Sounds like somethiing loose in side panel Chuck, if you had a tracker fitted I bet this area was desturbed.......

Update - Parts arriving in Cardiff Audi Wednesday, so should have the car back Thursday.
Very impressed with the level of customer service, so lets hope the car is ready with all faults rectified

Yeah I did have a tracker fitted, would that be in the wheel arch area in the boot? I can see something through the airvent things, how do you get the carpet area out to look behind?
