My car already had superchips software on it, the difference is almost like going from a stock ecu to remapped again. Any gear and time it seems, 5 seconds from 50mph - 100 in 3rd gear.

Infact i have uploaded a vid:)

1. Connect Vagcom and go into Engine, then Measuring Blocks - any of them will do which records RPM (eg Group 2 or 3). Set up the log function.

2. Find a quiet, straight, flat stretch of road.

3. Take it up to about 40mph in 3rd.

4. Hit the Start button.

5. Floor it in 3rd from 3,000rpm and keep it there until you hit the rev limit.

6. Stop the car.

7. Review the log and measure the time taken to go from 4,200 to 6,500rpm - that's your FATs time. There's a spreadsheet model on here somewhere which will help with this.

8. Post up your time on the MRC FATs database.

9. Decide your next tuning options after comparing your time with others...

Im sorry Neckarsulm i also have to disagree with you, i knew nothing about Fats times before Doug explained them to me today, i still know nothing about Fats times, except i have a 3.342 Fats time which Doug and i did today. Therefore as its quite a good time i think its an essential way of assessing performance and boasting about it. And my baby drives like a little lamb not a pig.

The power gains quoted on their site do not suggest 1.7 bar, let alone 1.9. Either is very high for K04's and they will not last long at this boost with high engine rpm's. Check with your tuner.

Worth a thread of its own actually :)

ScottyBoy, how many onboard? ambient temp? averaged over two directions on same road? 98 or 95 Ron? car waxed or dirty? :biggrin2:
It's a good time though for sure.

Clive H, good guide, just one thing - if you are doing it on your own, there is no harm in pressing 'START' while stationary and ignoring all the 1st 2nd gear data afterwards.

I think we need a day at bruntingthorpe where we can log all these cars in a consistent environment - FATSMAX!

Depends on turbos (K03/K04/RS6/hybrids,etc) and of course the customisation required by the customer. I assume you mean peak boost under full load here?

But as you say, MRC can answer for themselves

Absolutely, safety first, and some may prefer to have someone in the car doing the logging for you, but that of course increases the weight.

I always hit the Start button when stationary and then take the appropriate data when complete.

Just another clarification (for newbies) that by the "Start button" I mean the button within the Vagcom software - you dont need to install an RS4 B7 style starter button for this test... :)

Yeah absolutely peak boost, a constant 1.9 bar would do no one any good. Not without some serious mods. I would just appreciate that if MRC are going to use a forum to slate something they can at least give me the reasons why, if they are correct, i will take my car back and get the car back to stock. Simple. But being sarcastic doesnt help anyone really.....

I agree David  this thread has now gone totally OT.

I need to see if I can improve on my FATs times now that the car is sorted...or do I need some K04s...? :)

Sorry, I didn't mean to slate anyone, I was just shocked at your rated 1.9 Bar peak boost. IMHO it's way too much for those poor little turbos (even though they're K04s they're still closer to hair dryers than actual turbos) and if you look closely to a compressor map, there isn't anything like 1.9 bar on the map. So, even as a short peak, I think 1.9 Bar is suicide. That's my own personal opinion and not a tuner's opinion. I'm talking on this forum more like an user that talks to other users rather than a tuner trying to get business out of what I talk.

Hope you understand,

Mihnea

Boost....

Post by quattrosteph » Thu Mar 08, 2007 8:33 pm

I know it is off topic but for the boost issue the best thing is to get a boost gauge fitted in the car.

You can find out how much you are running anytime....

I am currently running 1.6 bar (23 psi) at peak boost ONLY!! Not that figure at high rev or before the red zone...... :greyrs4:
