Best to have an instructor for your first day. I have saved many a poor Audi from track day virginity. I instructed on one the quattro owners club days at oulton, having had a quatty for 13 years!.
Most drivers make a big mistake about the speed they are going, ie there are no walls or road signs wizzing past to let you know how fast your going. get to the corner... big understeer followed by a grass excursion!

I do instruction 1 to 1. let me know if i can help,,

Rob
Hi Rob,

Are you a qualified instructor and do you do TrackZone trackdays at Donington ?

Thanks

David

Hi David,
Yes i have "qualified" if you can call it that... I did the course then found out what you get paid as a ards instructor!! not good.. wouldn't cover me getting to say Silverstone and back in the RS!

I have done instruction at trackzone days with my customers, not been part of the staff.

If anyone did not think i'd done my job properly on the day then there's no charge. I take what i do seriously, if you've not had great day out and come away with massive more understanding of what makes for quick curcuit driving and an undamaged car then i need to change jobs!
Part of my track record :
Started racing MG Midgets,
Caterham Superlights 2 seasons ,driver of the year 2002
Fomula Palmer Audi winter season.
Ran Caterham team for two seasons.
Moved to running a Radical team.
Should have a drive this year in a Chevron B8 in the VdeV championship.

I am not trying get bussines, please believe me, I have plenty on, just have had the UR for such a long time and laterly RS2, big Audi fan (Everone in our family has one!) My father wrote an article in the Audi driver mag last year.. perhaps you saw it?
I usualy book the place for my customer, with an extra driver (me) If you all want decide on a time and day then let me know?or tell me where you'd want to go and i'll book it?

Just thought i'd pass on some experience!

Rob

How does Bedford compare to Bruntingthorpe?

My one and only track day experience (apart from a few laps of the 'ring) was at bruntingthorpe. I had a few laps with an instructor and had fun before mechancal problems foced me to stop.

I loved the track though, simple enough and plenty of run off.

The frustration of the limitations to use the S4 properly on the road are getting to me and I have been thinking of taking the S4 to the track at least once to say I've done it.

Interested to know how you guys think Brunters compares to Bedford.

Would possibly be up for a beginners day if they are better, although I found my Bruntingthorpe experience to be safe and well organised with mixed ability and vehicles.

Brunters is an airfield with 100 year old runway tarmac, Bedford is a racetrack with relatively new racetrack tarmac. Very different animals and Bedford will allow your tyres to last longer :)

Remember : Track day must have before power and brakes = Spare set of wheels with sticky rubber
(Or with one set of wheels : Road legal track rubber and a friendly tyre shop)

Bedford is by far the safest and easiest place for a trackday novice. Good atmosphere, well policed and with the long straights of the Gt circuit you have time and space to concentrate on the driving.

easytrack have a day at bedford on march 17th......you can book a 1/2 day for £99 plus instruction..just to get the idea!

I have driven Bedford about a dozen times, will be there on the 17th, more than happy to show anyone the safe way round and advise with tyre pressures etc...

(mods no affiliation with easytrack, just an offer of assistance :) )
2000 B5 S4 facelift, sadly missed...enjoying the 2005 A2 TDi Special Edition though!

:) I'd Concur, Bedford is ideal: loads of run-off (onto grass) and a nice wide circuit. The GT circuit is great (but may take a few sessions to learn).

Donington is a superb circuit, but most track-day virgins find Craner curves a bit daunting. Not ideal for exploring the limits of your car... you'll probably lose session time stuck in gravel, plus slippery when wet.

Bruntingthorpe is a tyre eater, is easily learnt in your first few laps, but you may be bored after 3 sessions (i.e. OK for half a day max).

Guys,

I'm stunned by the lack of interest in the RS246 trackday.

Mind if I ask why ?

I simply require an oil cooler, and not sure if my car will have this in time - I am also worried about missing the ring trip. :(

Bedford is fantastic for learning track driving in safety.
Have a look at www.driverdp.com
There is a special discount for RS246 members of £280, if you come on the 31st May course.
This day is great for learning about the limits of you and your car....great prep for trackday driving.

Hi Rob

Got my first track day at Rockingham next Sunday.

I wonder if you could let me know of your charges for tuition if you're free that day.

Or any free tips if you're not!

Shame there weren't more of these available on a Saturday. Can't afford to pay for it and take time off work.

Done Bedford before and would like to go back. If someone could put together an RS246 slot that would be great.

Another good track is Goodwood. They are not cheap, but with only 5 or 10 cars on a huge track a novice has no problems at all. All very good mannered there too, no riff raff (don't you know). They have instructors on hand to drive you and then you drive them...see how you progress and then take them back out again in the afternoon to judge your performance. I've got 2 days booked there this year. last time I went they had some pretty expensive metal on track e.g. Astons (2 with only 3k on the clocks!!) Ferraris, GT3's, M3's (sorry I said no riff raff didn't I? ... well apart from the M3's!). No Scoobies or Evo's and not a baked bean can in sight. Strict noise limits so Doug needn't apply.
