Apart from opening up the exhaust to make a better sound, does anyone know what else the sport button actually does ?

Seats, if you have buckets... one would also assume a change in DRC and engine map

found on the Audi website

Sport button
Summon up engine strength at the push of a button. Seat side sections draw in, accelerator pedal characteristics change and the engine sound becomes sportier.

I would like to know, if anybody knows if over a certain RPM the valves open when NOT in Sport mode - Thanks

Does anyone know if the side bolsters inflate on both the driver's AND passenger's bucket seats?

On mine only the driver's side bolsters inflate.

does anyone know if the sport mode effects fuel economy - don't see why it should as its not releasing any more power ...

Yes, sometimes it can mean better mpg.

Set a cruise speed, make sure the road is level and press S on and off and watch the instant MPG

Actually Andy I'm sure I read it works the other way around as it does on the AMV8. i.e. the valves are open to about 3500 and then close but with sport on they remain open. Could be wrong though.
Had them open while driving on Sunday. Oh my god the sound!

Hi Mike,

If you rev it non sport mode it is quite ... sport on is louder...

If they never open in non sport mode ... I can't see how this extra back pressure is good for efficient running

On the rollin road with the sport button on it actually gave on average 7 BHP more, not that you would feel that 7BHP on the road!!!

With Sport Button off, the throttle is remapped to lower settings, up until wide open throttle. In the US there is no difference between WOT in SPORT and Non-SPORT mode. Also, in non-sport mode, the exhaust flap opens automatically at 5000 rpm, or anytime you go to WOT. Logged ECU torque at WOT for the traction control system shows no difference between Sport button on or off. For those who like the sound and additional exhaust flow of Sport mode, but like the tractibility of the non-sport mode, you can remove and clamp off the vacuum lines to the flap actuators, and they will remain in their normally open positions. This will give you the fuel economy and gentle throttle response of the non-Sport mode, with the sound we all love. It should also marginally increase fuel economy, due to the better exhaust flow and lower backpressure.
