Now they have no engines!

Post by VARSITY » Tue Nov 28, 2006 5:34 pm

I have had my RS4 Avant on order now for 14 months. The dealer has told me its late because Audi haven't launched it yet, its late because the factory is running late with manufacturing and now, the best yet, its late because they have run out of engines!!

Yes, you read that right, NO ENGINES!!

Has any one else heard this rediculous excuse?

Answers on a postcard please to.......

14 months!!! That's ridiculous.

I ordered my RS4 Avant in March 2006 and collected it at the end of July 2006.

You say they haven't launched the Avant yet? What country are you in?

I think your dealer is talking out of somewhere where the sun doesn't shine...

I am in the UK and when the slot was available for my car I specd it to the hilt, including special paint and trim, so I can accept a small delay but not this long.
If I cancel I am told that I will loose the deposit and they will try for a 5% further cancellation charge.

That and the fact I have just heard that there is a dealer in Derbys that is offering 8% on a new factory order.

My only worry is if there is a price increase.

Mine to was ordered in March, and delivered in July........ there was some rumour posted here recently, that one of the cars had been held with an engine problem, but I am not sure how true that is. If they have discovered a problem with the engine, there will be a major problem of TT rear spoiler proportions, requiring all the existing cars to be sent back for an engine change...... nice.

The orderbook for the Avant was opened in March in the UK, and the official UK launch was back in May/June - so your dealer doesn't know what he is talking about.

If they haven't got a build date then they have no grounds to hold onto your deposit, let alone ask for a further 5%.

Go talk to your local Trading Standards people, and tell the dealer that you have done so. That might scare them into stopping talking such bullsh..

I just to to clarify what I have said as the Audi Police may be watching.

I placed an order with Audi, Sales Centre somewhere in the UK. They then contacted me and told me to come in and spec the car. I did and over a 2 week period the spec changed a bit as the new items of Sport Suspension and Ipod connection came available. Some months later I was told the car would be here early september. After this date came and went I was curtly told that the car had special paint and wwahat was I expecting, miracles?? I backed of and was told early Oct. Only after I told them I was going to cancel did I get told that the car would be here soon as it was in final assembly. Now I am told it is back in production. I am worried as I went through this with both RS6's and do NOT want to go through this again. £60k and all this grief, no thanks.

Having just spoken to them, they are in now doubt that if the car isn't here and ready on 2nd January then I would not take delivery and they will recieve a cancellation order through my solicitor.

Hopefully it will be here as I do want it.

Anyone else heard that there are no engines or production is delayed??

Regards

If anything I would say production has come forward... ordered my new one in July, told to expect it towards the end of Jan 2007 and I am now collecting it tomorrow afternoon.

Seems strange its taken you over 14 months, come tomorrow I will have had 2 in the last 5 months :D

I'm a little confused, you placed your order Sept 05? PetrolDave said you couldn't order them till March 06 .....

If they say Jan 07, I think i'd be tempted to say b*ll*x and wait till March for a 07 reg :)

This sounds a bit like another story I heard recently, where the dealer had not actually ordered the car when they claimed they had... delayed delivery.....
It would have been impossible to place an order in Sept 05, at that point, a letter of intention was all that was needed to secure a slot, when I ordered the actual spec of the car, I paid my deposit and that was that.
As a footnote, the special paint part is a pain, the car is built in one factory, sent to another to be painted, returned to the original factory for completion and then to Gmbh to have the RS bits added.

Ordered mine first week in October, just passed inspection point 7 (out of 8) and should get it in the next couple of weeks (fingers crossed). I'd start chucking my toys out of the pram big time if I were you. Have you spoken to the Audi MD/Head of Customer Services?

edited to try to replace cool smiley with an eight but doesn't seem to work!

That was my initial feeling. Ask the dealership for their confirmation of when they actuall placed the order.

Funny how no one has commented on the 8% discount suggestion.
