My S3 Boost Curves - Stock vs. Revo mode
My S3 Boost Curves - Stock vs. Revo mode
Following on from the Well Lane rr session, I'm trying to find out if the car's poor performance was due to the car.. so, I've been busy doing some datalogging.
Can those who 'Know' spot anything wrong with the charts below? Anything amiss?
This one is stock mode, showing intercooler pressure

This one is intercooler pressure, in high boost 7, timing 7..

This one shows a torque curve, again in high boost 7, timing 7 mode..

Re: My S3 Boost Curves - Stock vs. Revo mode
I see a couple of things...
The chipped mode seems to continue the boost where stock mode levels off. Then stock mode maintains boost, whereas chipped mode seems to cause the boost to 'leak'. The cuase could be mechanical, something not being able to cope with over 1 bar of boost, or I suppose it could be the software. I would like to see the data from another vehicle before I read too much into it... IMHO

Re: My S3 Boost Curves - Stock vs. Revo mode
Cheers Phil. I've got loads of data now including airflow readings which I'm going to send to Mitch.
I'm going to repeat this logging hopefully tomorrow night when I've fitted my new DV..
Hopefully I can do some logging with Dunc's car as he lives a couple of streets away..

Sita - I'm back in the sunny south tonight (its grim up north) - I'll call you if its a decent time (although really I prefer to run low boost 9, not high boost)

Re: My S3 Boost Curves - Stock vs. Revo mode
Dunc, cheers - give us a call if poss. We'll have a few runs on our road.
BTW, we had a severe downpour yesterday evening in w/e - you'd be glad to be up north this time..

Re: My S3 Boost Curves - Stock vs. Revo mode
Observations...
Chipped graphs takes longer to reach just under 1000mbar, a coupleof seconds or so.
There is a little blip around 35 secs on the chipped graph - anyone know why/what caused that ?
Looking at the torque curve its got 3 major flat spots/troughs that would indicate ign <beep>? ( not sure, but they don't correspond with boost drops ). Worth investigating a little more I think. Did you log ign ? does that correspond to the flat spots ?
Overall the boost curves look ok. just under 350Nm (259lb/ft), I reckon this shows you at about 250lb/ft so a bit better than you got on the rr day - but thats probably due to cooler intake temp ?
Can you do a torque graph in stock mode so we can see if the flat spots/troughs still exist ?
Edit: I hope the graph isn't showing absolute pressure (i.e. only show pressure above atomospheric) otherwise it would seem you are short of boost on both graphs..
Have you had a compression test done ?

Re: My S3 Boost Curves - Stock vs. Revo mode
Crafty, thanks for your comments. I didn't log the torque in standard mode - however I'll do that tonight. I have been looking at ignition in the past, however I've not logged it. again, I'll attempt to log it tonight.
I agree, torque seems to be better (btw, vag-com doesn't log the actual torque very well so i'm told so I did this to see what the line looks like) - intercooler temp was down to 30C..
Cheers.

Re: My S3 Boost Curves - Stock vs. Revo mode
yeah I would of thought vag-com couldn't be totally accurate on the torque graph so will be good to compare it to a stock one.

Re: My S3 Boost Curves - Stock vs. Revo mode
Simon logged my car tonight running the same Revo settings as his from the previous night. He is going to post the graphs tomorrow - I'm not really sure whether I'm looking at or reading the right things, so any comments welcomed
Going to do stock runs tomorrow

Dunc/Simon,
Great stuff chaps. Hope you get to the bottom of the problem.

Re: My S3 Boost Curves - Stock vs. Revo mode
Righto, here is a boost comparison between our cars. both are S3's built 2 months apart, and are running high boost 7 timing 7. I'll post the torque ones tomorrow as we need to do some more torque tests and analysis.
