Im assuming that speed density mode means without the MAF? if its not needed why is it on the car? especially as its a part prone to failing? hmm

Just unplug and see what happens, if it is the MAF - replace.

Ive had enough trying to sort problems already, im off to MRC on mon!

im not keen the idea of doing the 'foot flat' tests when I may have more problems than just the maf. trying to work out whats wrong with a car im not familiar with by thrashing it and recording results on VAGCOM might cause more damage than there potentially already is!

had a ride in Zerok66 stage 2 and WOW!

well having got 2 new DVs and a new MAF, the car seems a lot more happy! acceleration is pleasing and it cruises happily, theres no uneven idle anymore which I believe was due to the MAF being dead. The only bad thing is that the car uses even more fuel!!! I could do with running some FATS times to see if it is performing exactly right. Ordered a DTS from some US company which should arrive shortly and im going to get ARBs, re-map and pre-cats gutted when I get home!

I noticed a definate improvement in MPG also, couldn't decide whether it was down to the re-map or the change to optimax /tesco 99, before i'd been using any old crap.

watched my MPG go down to 12 when I was stuck in a traffic jam for 2hrs!!!! took ages to go back up. most recent tank of optimax is giving me just under 30MPG about 29.6 I think. thats combined motorway, a-roads and town so might be able to squeeze a bit more if I continue to drive like a saint! Wont last long though, im just curious to see what the very best figures I can get are, and its a good way to see if something starts to go wrong if fuel consumption starts changing wildly!

If you are concerned about MPG, mention it to MRC when you go for your remap. They may (and I emphasise the word 'may') be able to lean her out a bit. I'm having a DTS fitted on Tuesday and am looking forward to the results. I guess that with all the extra power I have, it can't be good for the transmission and prop shaft to have any kind of movement...

FYI on the fuel economy, my MAF has died, error codes saying it is inoperative so I'm switching to an RS4 one but my fuel economy has died as well, 200 miles to tankful if I'm lucky....LOL

I didnt think you could just swap the MAF out for a different one without some serious alterations as the o/p signals are completely different voltages and confuse the ECU?
Im not realy that concerned about MPG if im having fun I dont care how many miles I get to a gallon its when im doing the boring long motorway mileage that I wouldnt mind having a little button that I can push to give me 35+ mpg when I am not requiring much power and then turn off when I want to have fun!
out of interest has anyone tried nitrous on their S4? maybe I should start a new thread to discuss this one?!

An RS4 MAF requires some mapping re-work. That is being done on Tuesday..
