DrB, let me know what the confirmation says. Been wavering over the value for money of the cover and weighing-up the potential risks. Would feel a whole lot more comfortable with a higher annual claim limit. :D

Stop press - made two phone calls yesterday, one to Warranty Direct and one to Nigel at Wayside Audi. Nigel tells me that new Audi Warranty scheme is available for sale at £699.00. No brainer.

Thats great news!!! I hope its the similar reduction for RS6. As a matter of interest, what was the Audi price quoted previously for S4 before they reduced it ti £699?

It was previously £1,557.00 with Mondial. New warranty £699.00 for one year, £799.00 for two years and £1,099.00 for three years. Hip hip.... :D

Now I'm really confused; spoke with my dealer and he said that the latest on the "Audi" warranty is that they have put the release date back again to 11th September. Spoke with Wayside Audi and they quoted me a price for the RS6 of 12 months for £699; 24 months for £799 and 36 months for £999, but this isn't an Audi warranty, its a third party warranty by Europ Assist with similar cover.

I am very tempted to take this warranty at 24 Months, your dealer is very kindly sending me the small print to see if I can buy it from your dealer, but then use it at my dealer in case of a future problem, as my dealer refuses to sell third party warranties. How confusing is that!!! They advise that its against the rules of an Audi Franchise.

I'm waiting for the small print too. We'll compare notes.

Nigel is checking to see if his warranty would cover me up in Aberdeen too!

Got the paperwork through, all the usual, claim limit to retail value (ie write-off) and no max number of claims. Max mileage 100,000. Most importantly the warranty is transferrable to the next owner for a £25.00 fee. Have gone for two years.

It looks good to me (in fact far too good for saying its at least half the old-Audi price), my only worry is using my own dealer and the warranty paying out to them instead of Wayside. I phoned Europ Assist and they said that this is not a problem, as long as you follow the guidance note three quarters down the second page of "ensure that Europ Assistance Administration Services are contacted" blah blah blah. So that sounds good to me.

The final thing to check is that my dealer accepts payment on invoice terms from Europ Assist, failing that, the 'job is a good one' or so they say! Cheers for the tip.

That's great news. I'll probably go for three years in November. For the small amount of extra I'm sure it will help come resale to transfer it.

One of the terms and conditions with the Europ policy is:

" Failure caused by deterioration of a covered part commensurate with its age and mileage is not included. This includes, but is not limited to gradual loss of engine compression requiring the repair of the valves or rings and the gradual increase in in the oil consumption due to normal operating functions. This policy will not pay for deterioration of this type."

This paragraph worries me - This implies that it would not pay for wear and tear. Most claims are likely to be argued to be wear and tear, are they not?

I finally got conformation in writing of a 'Platinum Warranty Direct' policy to commence at the beginning of November when my Audi warranty expires. Initially they had sold me a gold policy, but it had a maximum claim and total limit of £5000. I phoned them up and explained that that would unlikely to be enough if anything serious happened - after some discussion they agreed to change the policy to a platinum one. The difference is that there is no maximum claim limit or total (well to the value of the car anyway!)

The benefit I see is that in includes everything (excluding consumables like discs pads etc.) and it DOES cover wear and tear, so it SHOULD be more like the Audi warranty you have in the first 3 years. My concern is that with the other policies that they don't cover wear and tear. They therefore could argue any point.

For example (true event) - if the side airbag goes in the driver seat is it wear and tear - someone may see it as that, because you are in out of the driver seat over a 3 year period and these things happen. It was fixed under the original policy but would it be covered under the 'Mondeo' Audi extended warranty or under the Europ Assist.

Mmm I don't know. I would be interested to know who has taken out which extended warranty.

I was quite tempted by the Europ Assist policy but had second thoughts.

Comments please.

Have taken out the EuropAssist and will let you know how it goes should it be required. Only keeping it until the new RS6 is in play and was swung by the ability to transfer it to the next owner.

Well... I ended up going for the rip-off Mondial one in the end. They are still unsure of official Audi launch date.

Slightly better value for the potential bills of an RS6 in comparison, as the price is the same as any other Audi of just over 3L and above. But still an extortionate price.

I have a month until mine runs out - I think I am going to go with the Warranty Direct one (Platinum).
