Modfications to the rear

1. cut a scalop out of the hub to allow to redrill the bolt hole in the hub mount arm

2. redrill the mount holes to allow the bigger 12mm x 75mm x 1.5mm pitch with a 10.9 hardness rating the lower bolts need to be cut to size about 45-50mm

the only other point is the brake cable housing in the caliper is made for a round type anchor wear as the B5 has a cylindrcal type anchor a the end of the wire but all that is required is a slight squeeze of the socket around the wire anchor an this will prevent it from coming out
the rest just bolts on no clearance issuses and very happy with overall fitting

Hi Brooner,

I've been thinking about doing the same thing - they look great!

Can you give us an idea as to the cost of the parts for this conversion, and also where you sourced them from? How do they feel compared to the originals?

Cheers,

Paul.

B7 RS4 disks 8E0 615 301AB £557.50 the pair
RS6 front brake hose 4B3 611 707A £63.96 the pair
RS6 brake pads 4B3 698 151A £169.03 the set
RS4 B7 rear disk left 8E0 615 601AB rear right 8E0 615 602D £187.75 each
Rear B7 RS4 pads 8E0 698 451H £109.35 the set
B7 RS4 rear brake hose 8E0 611 775M £95.00 the pair
B7 RS4 rear calipers rear left 8E0 615 423E rear right 8E0 615 424E B7 £86.51 each
Rs4 rear caliper brackets 8E0 615 425D £262.00 the pair
RS6 calipers I got from Clive Harper but I would say about £700

all the above from www.vagparts.com don’t forget the bolts for the rear
brackets as the thread in the brackets is bigger and won’t take the
standard bolt on the B5 RS4 you need 4x 75mm x 12mm bolt with 1.5mm
pitch and 10.9 hardness

Total with fitting at Star performance which was a spot on job was £2700
Which is the price of some front 6 pot sets so all in all I’m very pleased just need to bed them in now?

Nice job Brooner.

I was wondering if you needed the rear caliper brackets because of different offset issues (as with the RS6 front discs), but I notice that these brackets are a standard Audi B7 part number (8E0), so are these all part of the standard caliper arrangement (as with the fronts) or do they have to be ordered separately?

i had to order ythe brackets separately only found this out when jim tried to fit them then found out the standard B5 RS4 rear bolts are smaller then the B& RS4 rear bolts and had to be ordered as well but the ones Audi supplied were only 55m long ok for the bottom but needed 75mm ong for the top luckly Jim had two in his shop and the reson for cutting the scalop out of the hub to allow drilling of the hub mount for the bigger bolts other wise they would have to drop the rear end to allow them to drill from the inside then they would have re check the aligment so instead of 2 1/2 hour would have been 5-6

Thanks for the clarification Brooner.

What's puzzling me though is that the caliper brackets cost 50% more than the actual calipers - I dont think they're visible in the pictures, but are we talking about the same type of brackets that sit on the front calipers (and come already fitted to the caliper to just bolt into place on the strut) or is this a different sort of bracket?

It's the same basic braket but it is larger to allow ror the larger disks so if your going the B& rear Disks and caliper route youll have to get the bracket aswell i was a bit shocked at the price but i had commited to the route and had to buy them direct from audi but i dare say vag parts would get them cheaper for example check the price of RS6 disks Audi 206.18 vag parts 149.04 RS6+ disks Audi 297.10 Vag parts 205.80

so assuming that all the work done on your rear brakes was copied there is no reason why the B7 RS4 calipers and B7 RS4 disk wouldnt fit on the S4 B5 model..

Thanks Brooner.

So it's the caliper "carrier" rather than the mounting bracket that we're referring to here, which is required in order to move the caliper back to accommodate the larger (324x22mm) discs.

Woody, I think that's a fair generalisation, but I believe that the earlier S4s had a different axle setup on the front, so this may well apply to the rear too - anyone know?

couldn't you just undo the centre bolt in the hub and remove it to prevent having to grind the hub and risk throwing it out of balance?

Yes, very nice job!

Though I agree with Dave, not very nice to have to grind out the hub.. though doesn't look like there would be much weight in it.

Never thought of that to be truthful this the way that jim said to go i don't know if there would be a problem removing the hub?? a asume that this was the easyest way to go but i'm a bit of a mechanicl <beep> so i was totaly in his hands. It hasant made any balance probs that i'm aware of we are talking 12mm out of the hub which is a very small peace of metal. thogh in retrospect the removingthe hub would be a more straght forward option.
