RS4 stolen
Just wanted to let members know an RS4 that was supplied by us on Friday was stolen from the new owner. The good news is that fortunately it looks like Trackstar has already located its whereabouts.
However, this is one of a few we have heard being stolen recently. My advice is to all B5 owners to be very vigilant at the moment. Be aware of people approaching your vehicle under the guise of asking for directions and the like and ensure you have Tracker or Trackstar fitted and operating.

RE: RS4 stolen
Sorry to hear that Marcus but thanks for letting us know.
Feel free to post more details for rs246 users to look out for if you do not recover the car via Trackstar.

RE: RS4 stolen
Marcus, I have one further request.
I know this is a long shot as you may not be willing to do this, but I have to ask.
Would you consider providing details of RS4s you have for sale (or have sold) to me to enter into the RS4 register please.
If that is not acceptible how about making the new owners aware of the existence of the register so that they may contact me themselves.
Fingers crossed the owner gets the car back in the same condition it was in when they lost it.
Many thanks.
John.

RE: RS4 stolen
I have heard of 3 B5 thefts in the last month.
The first one was stolen whilst the owner was trying to sell it. A smartly dressed individual went to view the car at the owner’s house. The owner didn't let the prospective buyer drive it but took him for a spin. When they got back, the buyer asked to see in the boot and whilst the owner opened the tailgate and pulled up the floor mat, the thief jumped in to the driver’s seat and drove off. Unfortunately the owner left the key in the ignition. He did not have tracker, but the car was found after it was reported as being abandoned in a street.
The second theft took place when a vehicle mechanic took a customers car for a test drive after repairing it. He stopped briefly and was approached by someone on foot asking for directions. He then asked the mechanic if he could drive him to the place. When the mechanic refused a struggle took place as the thief tried to grab the keys. The mechanic was getting the better of the thief but unfortunately an accomplice entered the passenger side of the vehicle and joined the struggle. The mechanic realising he couldn't win, let the thieves make off with the car. The RS4, again without tracker was found about a week later.
The third was stolen whilst the owner was picking up her children from school. A man approached the car near to the school and threatened the family if they didn't get out. His accomplice was driving a P reg A4. The thief made off but the car was tracked by Trackstar and found about 4 miles way.
My advice as above is to be particularly vigilant at the moment. It is a possibility that the last two thefts are connected, I am checking descriptions. These thefts both took place in the Bucks/Berks area.
I would also advise you all to keep doors locked whilst in the car and be vary wary of people approaching on foot. Keep your mobile phone in your pocket in case the car is taken and have a tracking device fitted. If you’re selling, be very careful and wary of the purchaser. As a tip, make sure you see the person turn up in a car and always get ID from them. It is much better to turn the person away without ID than to put your car and yourself at risk. A genuine buyer will understand. The best solution is to ask the purchaser to bring a driving license with him before travelling.

RE: RS4 stolen
Marcus, thanks. The first incident you refer to is exactly the same as previous thefts. Bet he had short blonde hair and acne too... Claims to be from Henley amongst other places in the Bucks/Berks region smartly dressed etc, claims he wants an RS4 to carry computers, clothing, seems to know a bit about these cars too.
There are 5 of us ready and willing to get this scumbag, but getting everyone together at the same time to discuss is proving difficult. Anyone else who wants to join in PM me.

Having a Clifford Blackjax fitted means not having to hang about for Tracker or having a hammered write off returned. Fantastic but simple device - highly recommended.FontainRS wrote:... ensure you have Tracker or Trackstar fitted and operating.

I actually went to view a Range Rover last year but when I turned up the previous viewer had taken it

The Clifford is a good idea but a with a tracking device, at least you know where the car is. Preferably have both!
I have checked the description of the thief that stole the RS4 yesterday and he sounds like the same guy as mentioned in other thefts. 5'8"-5'10" tall, well built to chubby with blond hair and a nose that looked like it had been previously broken. His accomplace I have now found was driving an RS6 saloon which was stolen earlier that day in Beaconsfield.
The theft from the mechanic a week ago had a similar description although he said the thiefs hair colour was more mousy but with an acne face. Police say they are looking for a man or men responsible for a number of thefts of high powered Audis in the west London, Bucks/Berks area.

RE: Re: RS4 stolen
hmm, what I don't get is, why were the cars found a short distance away ?
What is the purpose of the theft ?
Is it to simply gain car details to ring them, to use in roberies, or what ?
All very interesting info, and it does sound like these are the same people Bob is hoping to nail (wanna borrow a nail gun ??
Thanks for the pm Marcus.
Cheers,
John.

This is very much NOT just an RS4 thing mind - as I said the Range Rover I went to see was gone and I lost my last [Jap] car from Birmingham airport - Disklok, Cat 1 et all...

We all need to be more vigilant - particularly when selling.
I dont think a honest buyer would mind checking id. I think takin a snap of them is good thinking- not sure how id go about it(stealthy vs upfront). If you want to hire stuff (power tools etc)they often have to photograph you

AFAIK these tea leaves often nick a motor and then dump it somewhere just to see if its got a tracker. If it gets picked up by the tracker they get something else - if its still there a week later they can then take it away and ring it/ break it.JohnW wrote:hmm, what I don't get is, why were the cars found a short distance away ?
