Harry, you don't actually need to remove the sensor, as you can spray it from both sides.Cheers David so it's a simple process to open, clean the element then put back together or is there a knack to it?

Its a money spinner for them... how do we ... jo public dispute that the MAF is slightly out of range ..? or just dirty ...? unless we got vag-com or go to another test bed...... so they would just change it ......
I been taken down that road from a tuner....
I gullably believed it would cure my typical overboost dtc........ bullshit ...
it was a cracked banjo coupler on the pressure housing ...... another story there.....
I use contact cleaner, states its safe for all contacts and electrical surfaces, evaporates quickly if you dont sniff it up ..

Nige - another pearl of wisdom. Come to think of it my young lady wants her MAF sprayed from both sides too on her S3.
Dave - you lost me @ banjo

Ok Harry, sorry rambling again ... banjo coupling takes boost pressure from turbo housing up to N75(senses boost pressure)....
crack ... boost leak .. overspin ... puff ... turbos wiped bearings....
back to thread ... think you may be able to get a feminine maf cleaner .....
its gentler im led to believe .....

Whcih bit needs cleaning please
Ive attached one side of the pic of the MAF.
CAmera ran out of batteries and couldnt take pic of other side.
Is it this side that needs cleaning or is it the other side.
I was thinking of cleaning it in an ultrasonic bath to. Although that might not be a good idea.
I already bought a new one from audi and replaced it, so Im thinking or seeing if reconditioning this one works or not.
I have liquid iso prop that i can apply with a brush but scared to do this as someone instrusted not to touch it.
Also does any one know how to check readings of MAF through VAG COM. I just got a usb cable for it the other day. Basic functions working.
Cheers

I cant see it..

RE: Whcih bit needs cleaning please
Okay Im 10ft away now ...... its the base of the unit saf....... that sits inside the housing, blast your iso in there, if u got liquid iso, give it a little soaking and let it dry natrually......
This should remove any deposits around the sensing wire..... I cant remember the block you monitor for MAF on vag-com ..... someone will chip in soon mate ..

Saf, try a little compressed air on the unit if you are just soaking it, my contact cleaner is propelled stuff in a can.
You should look at ross-tech web site, they have an extensive faq's on there,
but when your connectd in the engine module, basic settings, measuring blocks, choose your channels to monitor/record, choose log, record i think ....
its all on ross-tech sites faq's,
it will come up as a .csv file, import that into excel if you want to view it raw.
HTH's .... probably mostly wrong as I shouldnt be writing this on a sat. night.... should be out on it....

RE: Whcih bit needs cleaning please
What channels would i need to record?
I looked on the manual on ross tech site and its very vague unless im looking at the wrong thing. A step by step explanation after I reach basic
settings would be cool. I just dont know what channels to shoose. I think I can work out how to log it. Going to have a try sunday afternoon and see what happens.
Thanks

Log Bank 2 Saf - this will record MAF airflow data.

Engine module channel 003 is seen as being more accurate, plus you will also log throttle position and ignition timing at the same time with 003.Log Bank 2 Saf - this will record MAF airflow data.

Did log channel 003 and got results in third gear to 100MPh at 6800 mph. Got MAF readout pf 220 at that point.
Is that okay for a standard car?
Thanks for all your help guys.

Saf
For totally stock S4 220g/s is fine (perhaps a bit higher than expected). For a rough guide of power divide figure by 0.8 =270 bhp. If you were chipped and didnt know it there could be a problem.
As for cleaning MAF iv always used carburettor cleaner- squirt the stuff whlist engine is running (disconnect air box) . Havent done with the present car but its quick and simple.
