Hi Everyone,

Just returned from our holiday, just thought i would provide a little info on what we have been upto. Also to provide information on where we have been, just in case anyone else fancies a similar trip. All i can say on the whole subject is that its been the single best holiday i have ever been on. End of.

Friday 26th August.

Sheffield - Strasbourg.

Via Crap UK roads to Eurotunnel - Calais - Brugge - Brussels - Luxembourg - Metz - Strasbourg.

Worked Saturday and Sunday in Strasbourg, stayed at Hotel Petite France. Can really recommend this hotel, it was lovely.
We met up with two other couples from Sheffield on the Sunday night who were doing the trip with us, they both have A4 3.0tdi cabriolets.

The RS4 Has been unbelievable, it just ate up motorway at an average MPG of 25.7.

Monday 29th August.

Strasbourg - Davos.

Via Basel - Zurich - Walenstadt - Landquart - Klosters - Davos.

Stayed at Zur Alten Post Hotel, great pizzas, great views.
I would recommend that this was enough driving for one day, just take it all in and enjoy. This will set you up for the Stelvio Pass the next day :D

Tuesday 30th August.

Davos - Lake Garda ( Toscalano Maderno )

Via Fluelapass ( brilliant ) - Susch - Zernez - Sluderno ( many passes ) - Spondigna - Stelvio Pass ( brilliant ) - Bormio.

Hard to know where to start here. The day was incredible, the weather was perfect and the noise (V8) was spine tingling at times.

Stelvio pass was brilliant, even if it was a little busy with cyclists at times. The view from the summit is worth all the fuel it took to get there.

Just a word of warning. If you take the wrong road after the summit, you will run into Passo Del Torno. This is a terrible road, only one car wide and very busy. We nearly had several head on's. Just take the road signed for Tirano instead, makes life a lot easier and longer.

Ended the day in lake Garda at Hotel Milano in Toscalano Maderno. Good hotel with ample free parking that was safe as houses.

Saturday 3rd September.

Lake Garda - Milan.

Pretty boring motorway journey to be honest, best bits were the tunnels :D

Milan was ok, a bit overrated if i'm honest. There are some good sites to see, but wherever you go, get ready to have your pants removed and a finger inserted into the rectum.

Went in the Ferrari Shop and got an eyeful of this on the way out.

Monday 5th September.

Milan - Menton.

Via Genoa and Coastal Route.

Another brilliant day, the coastal route was full of tunnels and some of the coastal towns look fantastic. We got a lot of heads turning along the way.

In Menton we hired some private apartments on a Vineyard, very relaxing. Menton is a really good base to see Cote D' Azur, its much cheaper to eat and drink than other resorts.

We spent a day in Monaco and drove some of the GP circuit too, awesome. Took the RS through the tunnel, very memorable.

Saturday 10th September.

Menton - Monza for F1 Qualifying.

I have followed F1 religiously for as long as i can remember, but i have never been to a GP live. We decided to go for the qualifying because my wife had to be back at work on Tuesday this week, we would have struggled if we had gone to the main race. I was blown away by the noise and the amount of money kicking around, we had a great day out.

If you are planning a trip to Monza GP, take some good walking shoes. We had to walk about 4 miles there and 4 miles back. It was 35 degrees, so a hat and suncream too.

Saturday 10th September.

Monza - Andermatt ( Switzerland )

Via Como - Locarno - Airolo - Gotthard Pass - Andermatt.

Great drive after watching F1 qualifying. Was approaching dusk when we reached Gotthard Pass so we bed down in Hotel Aurora in Andermatt. Great hotel and breakfast, rested and ready for Grimsel Pass.

Some unbelievable scenery from this hotel.

Sunday 11th September.

Andermatt - Folkstone.

Via Gletch ( Furkapass - Brilliant ) - Grimsel Pass ( AWESOME ) - Meiringen ( Brunigpass - Brilliant ) - Luzern - Basel - Metz - Luxembourg - Brussels - Brugge - Calais - Folkstone.

Quite simply the best day of my life. ( after getting married )

Grimsel pass and the others were unbelievable. So much more drivable than the Stelvio. Its so hard to compare them, its just breathtaking wherever you go.

Stunning Stunning Stunning. The car has never missed a beat all holiday, loads of shell V power and a litre of oil.

It really was brilliant thanks.

We used about £800.00 in juice for the whole trIp. I don't think that's too bad.

Beach holiday next year, but will do the driving again soon.
