Advice needed on how to spend 30K !!

Post by MEV » Wed Nov 25, 2009 12:08 pm

Hi

Father in law wants to change his wheels and has a budget of up to 30k. He is after the following spec and I wondered if any of you guys can suggest from exp or knowledge on current good buys that follow the following spec.

Ideally 4x4 or estate with enough room for 5 adults or at least 3 child seats
big boot
Auto
up to 12 months old with a long warantly
needs to last for at least 10 years of family life with up 12k a year
good tower - caravan unfortunatly !!!! :
Diesel but quiet cruiser
Obviously reliable
Kid proof
good driving position

Any other suggestions would be helpful

Cheers

Probably the best bet. I get 30 mpg with mine and drive hard so should be easily do better. Will tow no problem and £30k will get nearly new. Warranty is very important as I've had a fwe issues with mine.

I doubt much else will fit the bill imho

Kim Collins of QST had one, V10 TDI, he said the fuel consumption was dire. Mind you he drives like a loon.

Cheers fella's, if its of any interest he test drove in the end an X 3, 5 toureg, Lexus, free lander and DC90. He liked the disco but its just to big a beast for them. Suprisingly, the x5 and DC 90 are leading the race and with a superb scrappage deal and discount with the Volvo it could be a winner for something around 25k full loaded with the extras. Not 100% but some of the deals and feedback is quite eye opening! I would push him on an Audi but the q7 is again to big and the q5 being a bit pricey still in comparison to the above....
