Transferring Private Plate

Post by Tomson » Mon Jun 30, 2008 9:47 pm

Hi All,

As you know my RS4 is now for sale and I need to get my wifes private plate off it. I have looked on the DVLA website and whilst it seems quite simple I have a few questions that I need help with.

I understand that I have to send the V5 off to Swansea so they can send it back with the new age related plate details on, this can take up to 4 weeks!

How do I go about selling the car during this period? I don't want to have to wait four weeks.

Any help anyone?

Thanks,

Tom

Mine took less than 2 weeks, there very good at the DVLA these days. It does say you shouldn't sell the car during this period but i did and the new owner trusted that i'd forward it on straight away once it came back.

there was a case on here I think of someone who sold a car with a cherised plate on it and the buyer said that the previous owner could get the plate off..... survey said ERR.. ERR!!

sold as seen!!!! so he lost his plate.

for the sake of 80 quid and a few weeks, I would wait if I was you. I.M.H.O

Except "he" was lucky and new owner read this forum and has arranged the transfer with him. Case of lost contact details.

you could also find out where your local dvla office is and go and do there! Saves any hassle at all.

Your local DVLA wont be any quicker as they now forward it to Swansea, i drove 70 miles round trip as i had done on a couple of ocassions to get it done there and then only to be told that they no longer do it straight away. They put the paperwork in an envelope and posted it for me.
A day's holiday and 20 quids worth of fuel waisted.

Sorry about that it used to be a simple case of them doing it but I guess that was too easy!!

You are actually required by law to keep custody and control of the car until the transfer is complete..... I have been requested to take the car for inspection on several occaisions recently........
