Audi Reliabilty

Post by Vaio » Sun Feb 03, 2008 8:30 pm

I took a quick look at Audi on the Whatcar surveys and it's pretty bad.

Certain models are in the top 10 for reliable cars, then some are in the top 10 for least. Seems to be quite hit and miss. Anyone have any dire reliability problems.

My Dad's A2 is pretty average to be honest, one of the worst cars he's had though in terms of the car going to the garage.

3 or 4 garage visists later and the engine management light was still on, just as well it was all under warranty. The minute that they stopped using the Audi diagnostic system, the spotted the real fault and fixed it. It's been good since then, but there has been some electrical stuff, like the CD player won't play random between CD's, just on the one CD. The 6 disc in dash unit, can't remember the name.

The other night there the lights went, like, the things are on but the light coming from then doesn't even show unless the object is right in front of them.

Hope they aren't going the way of Merc.
A Mercedes owner knows they made the wrong decision when their car rusts like a Lancia.

A BMW owner knows they made the wrong decision when their car is more common than a Mondeo.

An Audi owner knows they made the right decicision when they fly by the Mercedes and BMW owners.

Ive recently dealt two A4 1.9TDi Sport Avants both 130 BHP 6 speed auto on 54 plates and both had new gearbox at 65k the one had a new engine, ecu and fuel pump at 45k apparently due to ecu overfueling and caused engine to blow hole in it ???????? Had loads with maf gone and a few 2.5 V6 TDi with Turbo failiers, love to read the service records and dealer invoices some Times quite shocking,But i Still Rate Audi as one of the better cars suppose there are good and bad in all makes,

I'd say electrics are Audi's Achilles heel. In fact the entire VAGina group has those problems. Everything else seems pretty solid.

Any of them still have the freezing lock syndrome, I remember Argos even selling a gadget a few years back in the shape of a VAG key to try and combat this, has a little heater in it. Can remember my dad pouring boiling water down the doors of our 90's Polo Saloon (the wierd looking one, quite rare now) just to get into the thing .

Best by far, yawn, has been Honda. Absolutely nothing went wrong in the 2 or 3 years we had that Accord, just a pity their cars are boring as sin ruling out the NSX and new Type-R (the spaceship one).

The polo I mean (strangely image results gave me the exact spec of my dad's car, Red and those "bitchin'" wheeltrims :
