UK to ban sale of new petrol and diesel cars from 2030 - FT https://reut.rs/32HkR28

Not sure whether this is more political
Manoeuvring (to be reneged on nearer 2030) or a genuine move.
Also not sure what will happen with all used cars! If there is a huge push for all EV’s will this mean they do scrappage schemes or raise prices on tax etc to a point where it’s not worth it?
I think it will take a lot longer than 2030 (these promises are almost always hot air) but eventually it’s all going one way.
Either way-there it is.
Make the most of it while we still have some time and feel sorry for the kids who will never know the joy of revving a V8/V10 or anything else for that matter.

With the current price of EVs I can’t see this being a viable promise. They need to come down a whole lot more before general public will consider it.

I recently read an article on the topic where it claimed EVs start carbon negative as it’s so damaging to refine the battery materials in the first place. Put on top of that the increased demand and pollution from charging all these EVs and on average you’d need to run an EV for 12 years before seeing any environmental benefit over a modern diesel.

On a serious note, you'd think the Government would of announced a National rollout of EV charging stations before making this statement.
