Car selling difficulties

Post by pule333 » Sun Feb 26, 2017 2:25 pm

Hi Guys.
So I have been trying to sell my Audi A4 for a very long time. Admittedly started of with ridiculously high price but in my defence it was highly modded and worth every penny to me, Since than it has been returned to more or less stock form and advertised at a more modest £3650. But I am still struggling to sell. Help me out out guys, what is so fundamentally unsellable about it? Is it the price? Is it the description? Help would be much appreciated

thanks for a reply!!!
I mean yeah of course it's always a price. If I advertise it now for 1k, it would be gone tonight. But let's be realistic :(
What would be a fair price?

The trouble is there's so many second hand cars about,
and as said before a modified motor appeals to such a small market.
I will say the one thing that put me off the advert at first glance was the Audi decals on the side of the car. A small thing I know.
Gd luck though

Thanks for the feedback. You not wrong. Market is flooded with cheap motors :(
With regards to the decals, thank! Will remove those suckers. Although when asked friends they said leave it ha ha maybe they don't want me to sell it lol.

Car selling difficulties

Post by Jon_J » Sun Feb 26, 2017 5:04 pm

Hi

I have just bought an A4 Avant so would be in a good position to give feedback on it.

First let me tell you what I got and for how much, then you'll have something to compare it to.

So I have a 2008 brilliant red a4 Avant, it's the 2.7 TDI, it has reverse sensors, sat nav and is an S Line. It also came with Factory privacy glass. It has 75,000 on the clock with a full Audi Service History, all four alloys refurbed and in very good condition all but a shall chip on the rear bumper. The interior is immaculate. I paid £5k for it.

When I was looking I ignored anything which ticked one of the following boxes, even after excluding these there were 7 within 30 miles of my house to look at:

Non Sat Nav
Non S Line
Tatty interior
Damaged bodywork
Over 80,000 miles
Did not have FASH
Silver cars (so many of them around)
WERE MODIFIED IN ANYWAY

As a few people have said on here, you limit your market dramatically when it is modified, things like staged remaps or turbos are a real turn off for the majority of people. What makes the car so special to you (the mods, the performance enhancements) are exactly what the majority of people avoid when looking as they just want a car, not something they have to spend time on or worry each time it needs some work.

I think either you need to hold out for the price you want and accept it will take longer, advertise in more specialist places and hope and enthusiast wants it, drop the money to make it too good to refuse or return it entirely to stock.

A4 B7 Avant 2.7 TDI Brilliant Red

CVT is the killer imo :(

A mate is currently hunting for a cheap A4 Avant - the only two things I've told him to avoid are the 2.4 V6 (drinks but doesn't go) and anything with CVT (aka Multitronic)

A4 is a great family car or maybe rep mobile

Family's with money are buying newer
Reps buy newer

No sensible family guy wants the headache of explaining the decision of buying a max powered tuned 10 year old estate with audi Stickers on it to his misses when it goes wrong.

Basically, you have built exactly what you wanted, which is cool, but in doing so, severely restricted the market.

Auto raider app prices it at 3350. Try that, at least avoid "over" 3500

Try 3499 maybe, let it go for 3200 min

What do you reckon you could get for the wheels and tyres sold separately? Another option is to buy and fit something like these and knock the asking price down accordingly. I have a pair of 5mm 225/45/17s in the shed if you need a pair to make a decent set. And as mentioned above, the more oem look might actually attract buyers who might be put off otherwise. One less thing for them to have to declare on their insurance etc etc

Good call by Ian.

Get an OEM set of wheels on it, and get the car looking as close to stock as possible and I reckon you'll get it sold.

Best of luck mate.
