How would you deal with this?

Post by chris_m » Mon Feb 08, 2016 8:19 pm

I picked my R8 up at about half 4 this afternoon. I was in for a full service, couple of stone guards underneath and to replace the V10 badges on the wing. The V's on both sides were loose. When I spoke to the service rep at my local audi, he notified me that the badges must have previously came off and been glued back on therefore they weren't able to refit them and I'd have to have a detailer remove the glue and replace as the degreaser they tried wouldn't touch the glue. My new badges were on the seat he told me though for when I want them to be fitted.

Anyway, £850 later, I go out to drive my car away and cant believe what the ar$e holes were going to let me take away. Did they really think I wouldn't notice?
Pieces of paint were literally just wiping off in the water as they had just washed the car. I got close to have a look at where the badges had been removed and paint was just wiping off.

God knows what they've used. I'm laughing about it now like but was raging earlier.

They are going to ring me tomorrow and hope they are going to do the decent thing.

Sad thing is it could almost be any dealer. The model is all wrong, only the franchise owner and perhaps their top sales people are making money. Whats in it for them to offer great service?

I'd give them 2 options...both would hurt a little!

That's terrible. Kick off, if you get nowhere go to Audi UK. Looks like you need a repainted wing.

That is so bad thats actually funny as you say. Beggars belief they expected you not to notice and to drive the car away like that? If I picked my 1999 'snotter' up with the wing fucked like that I'd be cross: I'd explode if it was a 2011 £75k R8 V10! I would have left it with them and grabbed the courtesy car back

It is mate, I can't believe it really. It'll definitely need repainting, it's stepped where the paint has came off, it's reasonably thick paint.

Okay, a little update then...

I spoke to audi UK this morning going above, simply asking advice making aware that it wasn't a complaint at this moment in time. I thought I'd give tyneside a chance to react first before it went further but thought I'd get a little insite on how it possibly should be dealt with. Audi uk were very helpful and offered to call tyneside on my behalf to get to the bottom of it. I didn't wana come across as jumping the gun going to this length just yet.

Anyway, thought I'd put tyneside on the spot this morning by turning up and asking to speak to the service manager. I waited..

While I was waiting, the chap who I originally dealt with (no complaints about this guy, he's sound) collared me and asked me if I'd like to talk about it. He was actually organising dates to have the work put right and said he has the 8th and 9th of March available if it was convenient as it would be a 2 day job and has a courtesy car booked for me for 3 days, just in case. Liability has clearly already been accepted and he suggested that because the badge had been glued on, they may have nicked the paint slightly when trying to remove the glue and thought they'd best leave it there but once it went for a valet, the steam cleaner had probably penetrated further causing the paint to lift.

Until now then, I can't say I can complain with how they are dealing with it and suppose I should retract my original headline. I will insist on a proper paint job though and hope they don't think they can get away with a spot repair.

Let's see how it goes!
