Dead car

Hi all

Friend has a new lease car and has been caught up in recent floods - drove too far into water and the bill to fix is only slightly less than the car itself... 30k+++

Do any of you out there have experience in either what the outcome may be, and also how to play it to salvage as much from the nightmare as possible?!

Do the lease company deal direct with the dealer? Thanks all he's obviously concerned and doesn't want to pester insurance, or really know how best to play it.

No GAP....
