Track down an old reg

I am trying to track down a private plate that I bought with a car back in 2000 - It's not appearing on any websites and I would like to try and track it down.
Any ideas people?

I'm not sure how private plates work, but can they be 'removed' from use by the DVLA? I'd start with the DVLA and go from there

All my searches have turned up a blank - I want to know if the number plate I want is in circulation, what car it's on and the owner! A tall order!
I need to find a friendly copper/DVLA person

To start with, put the number plate in
https://www.carcheckuk.co.uk/
That will give you the make of car its presently on (if at all).
Then put the plate & car make in
https://www.gov.uk/get-vehicle-information-from-dvla
This gives more details of the car...
Can't help with the owner unfortunately...

http://www.askmid.com will tell you if its currently on a car thats on the road
