S4 stolen
S4 stolen
Bit of a shocker. My S4 (2010 Avant black) was stolen from a station carpark yesterday evening. I imagine it's in parts or a container by now but just in case beware of any offered. Was 10 plate.

Re: S4 stolen
That's not good to hear. Any clue as to how it left? Driven, broken glass, flatbed?

Re: S4 stolen
Broken glass where drivers side window was. Will have to wait for the police to have a look at the CCTV but I think it was a fair way from the camera. Wasn't a keyless car and the keys had not been stolen.GrahamS4 wrote:That's not good to hear. Any clue as to how it left? Driven, broken glass, flatbed?

If not keyless I imagine it was broken window, release handbrake and push onto flatbed, assuming it was a manual.
Can you release an electronic brake when the car is locked and alarm active?
What county you in? Might be worth saying just to warn other owners in the area.
Re: S4 stolen
I am not in the know, but I really think keyless is a red herring with these thefts, I just don't believe it has any bearing.

Re: S4 stolen
In this instance it's not a red herring as it wasn't keyless anyway. But if it was keyless then there is a clear possibility that it was driven away like we've all seen on that home security footage of the B8 RS4 on the driveway.GrahamS4 wrote:I am not in the know, but I really think keyless is a red herring with these thefts, I just don't believe it has any bearing.
But as it wasn't it rules that out and means the thieves have found another way to steal these cars which are virtually impossible (as far as we know) to hotwire / alarm clone etc. But that isn't to say that some bright spark has managed to figure out a way of doing it now, hence why people are interested in thefts like this as opposed to the norm now of breaking into the house for the keys and driving off with it.
Re: S4 stolen
My point is how have you managed to rule it out? I think the electronics can either be hacked or they can't. The RS4 theft you refer to had hardware plugged in, just as yours could have.

Re: S4 stolen
I see, you are saying they could possibly plug something in to reprogram or bypass something on a keyless car?
As far as I understand it, this is only possible with keyless cars and I read why but can't recall the details off the top of my head. But I guess you could be right and there is a way to bypass the immobilser by plugging into the OBD port as unlikely as it sounds.

Re: S4 stolen
There's some videos of a device that will code you a key off the odb port. I'm tempted to chop the odb port off and bullet connector it!

Re: S4 stolen
Stolen from Andover Rail station car park in Hampshire, UK.
No not keyless, which as has been said didn't matter. Car was locked, both keys in my posession. It was an S-tronic so they can't slip it into neutral and push.
I imagine someone had the key fob programming software and while they'd prefer a brand new RS6, they knew there were a few decent cars in that carpark and my space was probably shielded from CCTV or something so that would do for a bit of quick cash. Probably being broken for parts in some lockup as I type.
*&@#%! is about all I can say about them.

Where was the plastic spare key? Wasn't in the ignition adapter in the glove box I assume?

Re: S4 stolen
Sounds daft I know but I have read people keep the key in the adapter thinking it is meant to go there, not realising you can start the car with it!
