Terraclean Carbon Clean
Has any body used Terraclean on their B7 RS4? did it have any noticeable affect and power gains. Im trying to find out if it is beneficial for the B7 as a alternative to an expensive de carbon clean. Thanks

Re: Terraclean Carbon Clean
In a word No.
The only people who appear to support its claims are those who sell it.
Many have asked for empirical evidence to support their claims, yet none is ever forthcoming. in fact, if you use the search function on this forum you will find the latest claims and no evidence.
On the other hand, why not, go for it. And while you're at it, I have this uncle in Nigeria who's just left me a fortune, for a modest processing fee, I will send you half the profits.....

it'd be nice to have some before and after picks of the back of the valves but as above... not forthcoming.

Re: Terraclean Carbon Clean
I had a terraclean done, and to be honest, there was a small change in throttle response a little crisper in tone on the exhaust note, but no real major noticeable difference. I have not had a carbon clean by the likes of MRC or Unit20 so have no comparison to go by to offer an informed decision to say which is better. It is a cheap proposition compared to having a full carbon clean by the previously mentioned.
The companies that carry out the terraclean are not interested in taking photos before and after, they don't even provide a simple emissions test.
I don't think it will do any harm to have one done, probably a better option to have that done than none at all.
I will get round to having a stage 2 remap via MRC so will have a full clean then, they can see if the terraclean has had any effect by the state of the valves.

Re: Terraclean Carbon Clean
Totally pointless for FSI engines - AMD essex do a carbon clean for £500
Re: Terraclean Carbon Clean
I'm pretty confused by all this Terraclean talk. I watched Ed China and thought the same as everyone else? "Is this the end to carbon build up issues in my B7?" So then I came to RS246 and its fountain of knowledge and read that it was a waste of time because the RS4 engine is an FSI unit, direct injection of high pressure fuel directly into the combustion chamber, therefor bypassing the valve stem and inlet port altogether. So because of that I totally understand that Terraclean will not affect carbon build up in this area, the valve stem and the inlet port. But Terraclean professes to clean 'post combustion chamber' too. And your £1000 walnut shell carbon clean only cleans inlet ports and valve stems. So, assuming Terraclean does what it says on the tin - specifically the 'post combustion chamber' bit - is it not a fair assumption that RS4's will also have significant carbon build up in these areas too and that Terraclean might just help get rid of some of that?
Or am I just an uneducated noob looking for another way to throw cash at my beloved motor?

Re: Terraclean Carbon Clean
Oh I've no doubt that it will have an effect. However its difficult to judge before and after and how much of the issue is intake deposits vs exhaust deposits.
They do have a separate product designed to be squirted into the inake like many others but a good point made on the description is that it can be applied via a vacuum line. Certainly makes it easier to do "solo" as you just add a bit of vac line to the one going to the airbox flap (easy to get at) and then sit in the car holding it at 2k rpm whilst applying the spray. The other advantage of this approach is that it doesn't require messing about with or potentially damaging the MAF sensor. But you could probably do this with any intake port cleaner product.
But this is purely conjecture... and to be honest it's not something I would recommend to tackle significant buildup. Perhaps as a post-manual clean routine maintenance say every 3 months to keep it in check.
*Might* be worth doing prior to a terra clean as all the <beep> will get chucked out of the exhaust so good to then get that cleaned.

Also - it's nowhere near £1000 and most don't use walnut shells.
I do wonder how well a dry ice blaster would work as they are considerably less messy and bloody effective.
