What daily car next???
What daily car next???
So the RS has gone and already I'm fed up with being stuck with just the Passat. The plan was to get an RS6, and that will happen, but the head and heart are arguing and the RS6 maybe have to wait 12 months.
So I'm thinking about chopping the Passat in against something that is newer (up to 3 years old), more comfy and a nicer place to be. I'm doing between 30k and 40k a year so looking at a Diesel that can get me 40+mpg. Quite like the idea of an auto because of the mileage but would have a manual in the right car.
Looking at A4 avant, 320d, 330d or C220. All seem to be similarly spec'd and priced.
Anyone have any experience or recommendations on these cars??
Cheers
Joe

Re: What daily car next???
the octavia Vrs Tdi is a great car, good looking car, 170 Bhp and about 50mpg, remap it and performance will be improved and still maintain mpg, they do these with a dsg gearbox so you dont have to have a manual, plenty of room, big boot and running costs are pretty good, around £170 a year road tax and parts are pretty easy to come by.
thumbs up from me for the Octavia

I like the idea but wanna be getting mid 40's for mpg. Not sure this will be possible with the 335.Bladerider wrote:DMS'd 335d Touring debadged.

What's DMS'd???
Have looked at these online and they just don't float my boat. I see the A4, BMW or Merc as an upgrade to the Passat but the Octavia seems more of a side ways step that doesn't justify the extra cost on top of the Passat. Will still go and check one out to see if my opinion changes.RS4chris wrote:the octavia Vrs Tdi is a great car, good looking car, 170 Bhp and about 50mpg, remap it and performance will be improved and still maintain mpg, they do these with a dsg gearbox so you dont have to have a manual, plenty of room, big boot and running costs are pretty good, around £170 a year road tax and parts are pretty easy to come by.

Re: What daily car next???
i personally love a good old fashioned manual, it feels like your driving the car more, but there must be some good from the DSG as alot of the VAG cars are using the DSG.joesnow wrote:Any opinions on Manual v's DSG anyone??RS4chris wrote:the octavia Vrs Tdi is a great car, good looking car, 170 Bhp and about 50mpg, remap it and performance will be improved and still maintain mpg, they do these with a dsg gearbox so you dont have to have a manual, plenty of room, big boot and running costs are pretty good, around £170 a year road tax and parts are pretty easy to come by.

They don't do a Vrs one but what about the Superb. It is based loosely on a C5.

...take it to see these guys...

Autotrader lists 335d Msport 2010 as 42mpg average and DMS often say you get slightly better mpg on runs with mapped cars as you spend less time accelerating, although thats after the first month I guess !! lol

Re: What daily car next???
For those that may be interested I went for this

2010 A6 avant, 2.0 tdi (170), leather, sat nav, bluetooth etc etc.
Was really happy with it. Was a nicer place to be than the Passat and having an estate again was great for the extra space.
2 days after it was delivered some donut pulls out of a junction and takes me out

Rear door, arch and wheel. Was pretty cheesed off to say the least.
Had a call from Enterprise who were providing the courtesy vehicle and said the A6 fell into there prestige category and had to provide a similar vehicle. So I was expecting a Mondeo Zetec rather then the style but he told me I would be getting a new E class. When they turned up they said the E class wasn't ready so I would have to have this

Brand new CLS 350 CDI. All I can say is wow. Having never owned a Merc or a brand new car I am seriously impressed. It has all the gadgets and is an amazing drive. Plenty of power, smooth and comfortable.
It was a nice upgrade from the Passat to the A6 (for 2 days) but I think when I get it back it's not going to feel so special.
