If you want a track car then I would suggest a nice MR2 Turbo. With your budget you could easily get one with 350HP or so and that would scare off most cars 0-60. And in the dry nothing compares to an MR2. The SW20 engine is pretty bomb proof and is the gearbox.

If that doesnt tickle ya fancy then I would suggest an S13 or S14 Nissan for some rear out fun.

Or if you want a pure out and out racer you can get a nice Evo 5 with 320HP for 5k ish.

But your making the right choice by going Jap.

That Mk1 MR2 looks effing hilarious, would hate to be seen in it but at the same time would also want to be seen hooning it about too just for the sheer amusement of others!

To me, the first beemer or anuthing that size/weight upwards isn't my idea of a track car.

That MR2 without the livery would be great.
The thing is, the Beeeeemer has an amazing chassis, so much so you'd probably not mind going slower. it's hard to argue against. The Silvia would be great on Ling Longs...

BamBam, go for the obvious choice, I know of an 89 E30 MTEC 2 325I 2 door BMW in red going cheap, it is a bit of a rust bucket and will need welding and looks quite battered and bruised but I could get it you for £200. I drove it a year or two back and it is crazily fun, the most fun car I’ve driven I’d say. If you crash, you know you haven’t a chance of survival, which only adds to the excitement; it is like a little go kart and quite quick too. I was going to buy it myself as it is worth £200 in scrap, in fact, the MTEC bodykit (genuine) is worth about £4-500.

Hate to start off negatively but housemate/I owned a black MR2 MK2 turbo between us years ago and while it felt great lowered and modified, like a proper go-kart on steroids to put it mildly, it was bloody unreliable. May just have not been the best one though and I left it to housemate to take care of as I had enough cars to look after (he never was one for actually paying to fix things properly....). Uprated turbo of some sort, drainpipe decat exhaust, greddy dump valve, white rays alloys and the mirror tint film on the rear sections.

Was very tail happy in a controlled manner when applying welly, never managed to tankslap it.. Must see if I have any pics of it anywhere. Going waaaay back now. Have to say, now I remember, that really did feel pretty awesome with your head at no more than about a knat's arse above the tarmac!

s2000 would be a great car for playing around in, nice high rev limit

S2000 is a bit too good for a track car, I think. That said, being able to scream "V-TEC HAS KICKED IN YA'LL" when passing people would too much to resist.
MR2 is kinda special, it's not often you can get in a mid-engined rear driver for peanuts.
I'd prefer NA with a higher rev limit for making progress, I've already got Darth for my turbo fix.

Dunc, I am going to pretend that I didn't see that. No, I repeat, NO man should be seen behind the wheel of a MGF ever!

Apart from that, I have known of 3 MGF's around here, 2 of them died a death and the other one spends more time under a cover broken than it does working. Not sure that they are reliable for ragging/anything?

I've driven one, it was one of the most hateful things, EVAH. I couldn't fathom why the steering was so heavy, bad driving position too. Not sure on reliability either.
