Prefer the old Vanishing Point car, I used to love the 1960's Yanks, had a goat (Pontiac GTO), 400 cubic inches (6.6 litres) high performance engine, drum brakes all round. SCARY.

Hah. I love the American idea of "high performance engine".. yeah, putting out neither 100 ft/lb per litre, nor 100 BHP per litre. I love that sort of performance. I bet it got great mileage too. At least seven to the gallon, if not, then more!

I've got an episode of Overhaulin' on in the background here. They just put a 502 cubic inch engine in to a car. Here in England, that's truck engine displacement.

Although, a friend of a friend put a chevy small block engine into a Nissan 200SX. Big supercharger tower stuck out of the top of the bonnet. Due ot what happened the first time he tried to move off gently, his username is "two black lines"

It's a different era of motoring, the old hemi engines used by Dodge turned out 425 alleged horsepower, but we are talking 40 years ago. My 2.7 litre car has similar output now but doubtless in 2048 a one litre diesel will do this. Not so much fun though with the ABS, ESP and all the other TLA's (three letter acronyms).

ESP? I don't have ESP. That makes life interesting...

Well something like that, I should have foreseen that response.

bl00dy excellent pic Rik. I loved KITTs scanner - but it's probably a good thing it's illegal to have red lights on the front of a car, otherwise imagine how may other cars would have this now.
As for the challenger, I quite like the outside but the interior looks just like most other American cars :dung: cheap and nasty (2p).

In all seriousness though, I'm facing some time in America at the moment, due to a new job. Enough time that I'm contemplating buying a car out there. Now, question is, what do I want? Do I want something sensible, or a goat? I think I want a silly muscle car, that I'll fit good brakes and suspension to[1]. The question is, what do I get? Or should I let the company rent me a car while I'm out there, and spend my money with MRC?

[1] Insert rant about brakes in America here. I've nearly been rear-ended 3 times already, and I've only been there for holidays. Has that country not heard about safe distance? The brakes are usually awful anyway, how can they have NOT heard about safe distance. How did this country get so many people in it when there's so many people who drive so badly?!

Although they are crap drivers they do at least appear to have a better attitude than a lot of us, I've never encountered road rage. Maybe they think everyone is carrying a "piece" and it's just too risky.

I like it. Gas is cheap in North America and this car is very cheap with a HUGE aftermarket support due to it's engine. It's like a ride at Alton owers, not terribly subtle but great fun in short squirts.
