In terms of the police... It's a grey area.
As I understand it they can confiscate video equipment if they believe an offence has been committed.
I do not believe they can take it without suspicion 'on the off chance' that something might be on it.

However if it is legally taken they can go through the whole thing and look for other offences.
It's quite tempting to have an extra toggle button in one of the blank areas on the centre console as a 'off/on' button.
Although ejecting the SD card is also valid - the unit has the worlds most powerful spring and unless you are careful the bloody thing launches the sd card out the window.

Oh! It also has an AV out with live feed so ideal for aligning the unit first time.

I'm not joking! First time I went to take it out I just heard 'ping' - bloody thing went miles.
(And trying to find a black micro SD card in a black car isn't fun.

It has some nice features
- you don't need to keep changing the SD card. It auto overwrites the oldest video.
- software is nice and easy to use.
- get the GPS version as it has google map and speed integration. It also gets the time from GPS so no need to worry about accuracy.
- good video even in low light
- internal mic
- parking mode is cool. Unit goes into a power saving mode but monitors the video feed. If it detects movement it records.

Fitting is easy - either run the wire round the windscreen to the fuse panel (garage door one is good) or direct into the overhead light panel.

You can get them from the manufacturer much cheaper too.
It also appears to have a power lead with an adaptor to run it off an ancillary power/cigarette light socket. Is that correct? so

Yes the power cable comes c/w a cigarette lighter plug on the end.

I wired mine to an additional cigarette lighter socket which is ls located just behind the fuse box cover, I used a ‘fuse tap’
to power the socket.

yes but remember the rs4 socket is perm live. The unit has a trivial standby draw but it's still there.
you can get a battery magic thingy which will disconnect the unit if the battery level drops however IIRC the car's own battery computer should do this too.

Thanks for your advice chaps; think I'll get one. Seems like a good idea.
