Looks like 10mm lime top coat not an install issue for sure !
Hot weather & Tarmac lock to lock turning on tar based product the joys of Tarmac on hot days unfortunately

Patching it would be only solution then highlights it more so if I am honest I'd leave it

Put a discreet gas / water cover there. Or something more jazzy like this:

Nice idea - it'll certainly get people asking questions. I'll tell them that's where the tanks for my race fuel are.
