Iphone app - waze.. Tested it against google maps in my B8 yesterday, still beats it hands down. Although routing better on maps than the audi disk.

Anything crowd sourced on actual data is going to beat all the static stuff

I have had loads of different ones, currently got a cheetah c150, which seems to be very good after a few months use. Free subscription and does all of Europe which I tested on a recent trip to France, and it picked up every single speed camera we passed. Needs to be physically updated on a computer, and not Mac compatible unless you have a Windows OS running on your Mac.

CamSam Android App. Never missed a camera but it can get a tadge confused if there's a camera near a roundabout as it doesn't know which exit you're taking so gives you a false positive which, to be far, I don't mind.

As others have observed it aint the device that matters it's the camera location database it uses that's critical. Personally I use and would recommend anything that uses the pocketgpsworld.com database which is pretty much any make of SatNav, iOS devices etc.

speed camera detectors

Post by RS_Four » Wed Oct 28, 2015 4:43 pm

I'm using Road Angel Gem Deluxe and is pretty accurate as to where camera's are located and mobile speed camera van locations are dynamically updated and supposed to remain active for a couple of hours. However, my experience is that whilst I get a mobile trap location warning they seem to be a permanent feature... still works though. I haven't had any laser warnings though. The unit is small enough and I have mounted it to the top right corner of windscreen using a long USB cable routed to the 12v socket in the boot (cables hidden under door trims).

Not impressed with the 'Target Blu Eye' device advertised at the top of the page. No doubt it works but too much marketing hyperbole for my liking. And anyway the UK Airwave emergency services radio network is currently up for renewal, with a system based around existing mobile phone networks looking favourite http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/news ... ement.html. Can't beat a good, regularly updated GPS system. And you won't get nicked for using it either.

Is there the ability to add an external GPS aerial? My Mondeo had a very similar issue (metal wires for the heated windscreen acting as a mini-faradays cage) and the cure was an external GPS aerial placed in the A-Pillar under the trim.

hi ian, I asked snooper and they said no, but I really don't trust what they say actually its very hit and miss with them, depends who answers the phone. is this something I could do myself? other issue is the snooper does not have a input for a gps signal.

I also went for the Cheetah C550. It's been very good so far. Pretty small and very easy to install

http://www.cheetahgps.co.uk/Cheetah_C55 ... ership.php

I phoned the above people and they distribute various GPS systems, including Snooper and they recommended the Cheetah above the Snooper.

rtd, with regard to your poor gps signal see the thread below:

viewtopic.php?f=2&t=110658

I couldn't get my TomTom gps to get a signal. Followed Shoppinit's advice (as usual) and ordered a GPS Puk. Worked a treat!
I fitted an extra 12v socket in the glove box and use one of these to plug everything in to:

My TomTom, Blackvue and my Cheetah all have no problem getting their GPS locked on :biggrin3:
