Petition to STOP cheap surface dressing

Post by jaysrs4 » Sun Jul 27, 2014 10:34 pm

Have a sign guys, may go partway towards stopping this crappy cost cutting practice on our roads.

Ruins paint, melts, makes an utter mess and leaves tram lines in the road. Apparently its dangerous to cyclists too!!! Well now they're my best friend!!

Signed

I'm considering changing my cycle route home from work as one section of road is so bad I'm worried its going to ruin my racer. I've already had a wheel straightened, and its not like that bike ever goes up / down kerbs. A slightly 'out of true' wheel reduces braking performance (rim brakes on a road bike of course) so yes it does have safety implications. I've never hit a pothole so bad its thrown me off

Detour is a pain in the ass but the 400 meter stretch is bike and ball breaking!

The complete bunch if tits at the highways did this outside my house 3 weeks ago. Had to change my route for nearly a month. Spent literally hours removing tar spots.

Done and signed.

Funnily enough, lengster1 and I were discussing this very topic only this afternoon at Blyton Park.

I'll sign it but, call me a cynic, I don't have much confidence it will change anything!

Go the self-help route like me...I always have my phone camera and keep a tape measure in the car. Local authority will be paying my next DRC repair bill!

I've noticed it recently as they have done this to all the main roads around here in the last few weeks. Almost my entire 7 mile drive to the station is covered in this crappy chips. I figured it must be a northern thing but looking at this it seems it's a cost cutting thing done everywhere.
Even more annoying are the undulations and bumps that were in the road before are still there so all it has achieved is more stone chips for me and made it take longer to get anywhere.

Signed a while back, I hope this gets noticed.

This.

No attempt to fill pot holes or deal with man holes covers/drains. Just lob the tar on and follow with the chippings. Worse still do it when the weather is atrocious and all of the loose chippings are washed into a pile which then ends up rutted like a bush dirt track. Truly <beep>.

Surface dressing is fine on low traffic rural roads - it's a cost effective refurb.

They did this on a main A road the other day. Gobsmacked. I have never driven so close to the kerb in all my life to avoid the HGVs ignoring the 20 mph speed limit pebble dashing my car.
