The mrs and I haven't really got on with the Scirocco to be honest. Looked at a Golf R and the S3 and decided on the S3. Drove the S3 today in s-tronic guise and it was fecking awesome. Materials felt good, quality was as good as ever with Audi even for a '3.

The S3 deal I got was only slightly more than the Golf R and I am Audi man so the order was placed.

Got a good deal on the 'Rocco as well.

Is it nippy?

Bloody nippy and good MPG as well. Makes the RS 5 feel very sleepy but thats forced induction for you. The between 30-70 is probably as quick as the RS. At 80 it did start to run out of puff though compared to the V8 beast.

Everyone at Audi were telling me to try the S3 as I would love it, I shrugged it off as I had the '5. Turns out they were right.

Sweet. Can you share what deal you got?

My RS3 was a bit like that, rapid to around 80mph but would run out of puff then, ideal for UK B road driving though as the 3rd gear pick up with the turbo was great

You can't beat the V8 though!

My money would go on an Audi before a Golf, for residuals alone it would be worth it, sadly I found the RS3 just a little bit too small for my liking.

I bet if you spent £900 on a chip it would be rapid!

I'd definitely rather have the RS as it is a monster but this will keep me happy. The steering was def nicer than the pre-FL RS 5.

Have you noticed the difference between the pre and post FL steering?

Yes, steering, braking and handling are all improved

To be fair it's like a different car, wasn't expecting it at all!

She can do one. Lessons are being started next week and her mum has offered to teach her in her car. When the S3 arrives I'll make a judgement call on the S3.

Superb cars. Drive last year impressed me massively, had a feeling it might be the most underestimated Audi in recent times and a drive confirmed my suspicions. And yes it felt every bit as quick in second 20-60 as my V8 S4. Silent at 90 mph on cruise, sounded very decent indeed for a stock car doing 60 in second!

Thats a good spec Nicky - flat red or Misano? MMI Touch is just gorgeous. Almost ironic the A3 has this system (launch was now back in Sept 2012?) as its such a good system and way better than in bigger more expensive cars.

Would have probably gone for B&O + Cruise instead of Privacy + Comfort pack personally - couldn't live without cruise, but auto lights and rain sensors do my head in! I always drive with my headlights on so auto lights are pointless for me

You make some valid points in regards to spec actually. I'll take another look at that. I went with flat red as I'm being tight, love misano but hate paying £500 for a colour. It will see me through until the RS 3.

Just looked and it contains:

Light and rain sensor
Cruise
Parking sensors
Auto dimming mirror
Acoustic glass

Probably worth it.

Going to try and add interior light pack as well.

Just checked the configurator, think I may add a few bits and bobs. This was supposed to be pov spec with only NAV.

Bonus, heated seats are standard.

So standard on an S3 but an option on RS4/5.
