Saki, sorry but I think mechanically unsympathetic 1/4 mile times etc are retarded and there is nothing that will change my mind on that.
No apology necessary. Lets be more accurate though. How do you feel about tuning shops providing ACTUAL performance data for performance parts, rather than just a dyno. That's my original contention. The 1/4 mile is a very good one and with a network of certified tracks around the world, more so, but there are other options.
1/4 mile times have no relevance for real world driving
Neither does a dyno...but everyone loves them off.
Neither does 0-60 mph (0-100kph), but every manufacturer of every performance car provides it.
A 1/4 mile test just expands on this and the timeslip information shows a load of info on what the car is doing. Far more than any silly dyno printout.
When doing that with a manual, the monkey behind the wheel controls the gear changes/how smoothly they engage the power/how nicely they potentially glaze their clutch if they really are tards. Again, standing start thrashes are retarded .
Nobody is demanding that all of the ham fisted monkeys here on rs246 immediately take their RSx to the strip and destroy their clutch. I am suggesting that a shop selling performance parts give acceleration data for the acceleration parts they are selling. Thats it.
And for the record my stock clutch in my rs4 is just fine. After 60,000 miles and plenty of acceleration testing. If someone can't accelerate through four gears without toasting clutch, the 1/4 mile isny the problem...the driver is, and they should invest in an automatic because the actions wrecking the clutch at the strip (poor engagement timing generally) will also wreck it on the street prematurely.
Further 100% of all future S/RS cars are automatic (dsg, dct, tip bleh...no clutch pedal equals auto) so your clutch concerns are almost entirely unwarranted. Besides if you're in the performance business surely you can find SOMEONE who knows how to drive.
