FOR SALE: 2003 B6 S4. £7.5k ono

Post by xs2man » Wed Jan 12, 2011 10:22 pm

Had originally wanted £9500, then down to £9000. As its the new year, and I would really like something else, I am going to cut the price again. This time to £8000, no offers. Thats for cash. If you want a px, it will be at £8500, and only for something cheaper.

Some price cut that, so grab a bargain.

Its time to move on from the Audi S4.

2003 Audi 4.2 V8 S4 Quattro
90k
tax 5 months, MOT April
FSH (last stamp missing, but receipt is there, 7k until next service)
Full leather recaro
Usual S4 spec
Black
Saloon
Unmodified example.
Location : Angus, Scotland

Bad points:
Has had a wee knock at the front. Was like that when I bought it, Ideally would take a front end respray to fix, but with the usual stone chips etc. this would be expected at this age / mileage, probably making it sound worse than it actually is though. Just looks like it never quite turned enough into a space.
Small car-park ding in rear drivers side door.
Usual interior wear as to be expected on this age / mileage. No tears or anything. Small burn on rear backrest though, again, there when I purchased.
Also has Kenwood XXV-01D Headunit as original had a problem with volume button, common on these, and had this lying around.

Anyway, if that hasn't put you off, it is a fantastic car. Sounds awesome, is very quick, and wasn't much more uneconomical to run than my v6 4motion golf. Oh, and looks ace.

Will only entertain cash my way though or straight swap.

FUEL COSTS:

Well, just checked the DIS. Average since I got it has been 22.4 mpg (according to the computer). Again, according to the computer, I usually get about 27-28 on a run. Average about 25 on the run to Aberdeen from where I am (about 50 miles), but that's through traffic as well.

As for what I ACTUALLY get to a tank, well, its 60l tank, and I usually get about 300 miles, so that's about 22.7 mpg of all different types of driving, using about 1/3 - 1/2 of that with the boot in (this is my second car after-all, and that's what it was bought for). Of course, I don't run the tank empty either, so its probably marginally more than that.

Also, if you drive it like a granny, when I fill it up, the MTE can state 400 miles. And the best I've done is have half a tank left after 200 miles, with 200 miles to go before getting bored, sticking the boot in, and getting it back down to a more respectable 320 miles
But if you drove the whole tank like a granny, that works out about 30 mpg.

To be honest, it aint that bad. I averaged about 26 mpg in my v6 4mo, so I'm only loosing about 3-4 mpg from that, but I did gain 140 BHP, so it was a worthwhile trade off. Although, I did see 36-38 mpg once, on a run down from Glenshee (again about 50 miles) in the 4mo, which the S4 just wont do. But I'm sure the S4 would have been the more comfortable car on that run, so would have still likely been worth the extra.

Actually, this year I have been up already, and did manage to average 36mpg on the way home from Glenshee this year. Was sitting at 56mpg at one point, but needless to say, that was at the Spittal :lmao: .

All in all, I've had the same miles per tank from this, the 4mo, and the mk4 GTI on average. Of course, the difference being the 60l, 55l and 50l tanks respectively.

Just to give you an idea on fuel costs.

Not that this is really typical, but just to show you what can be possible...

So yes, that's 158 miles into the tank, with 200 miles left in the tank...

Did you park in the Glenshee ski centre for two hours and then tackle the massive Cairnwell pass descent north down the A93 with your camera handy?! Would account for the temperature!

Ha ha ha. Not quite. But VERY close.

I did spend the whole day skiing up Glenshee though, and this was on the way back, about 3-4 miles south of Glenshee. As you can see though, I was only doing about 40 mph at the time as I was behind other traffic. And this was pretty much the case all the way home (50 miles) where it averaged 36 mpg, on typical Scottish A-roads. No dual carriageways or motorways here, and through towns also. Not typical, but possible.

Now that is just SPOOKY.

Very memorable section of road - the highest in the UK I believe. The north is the Cairnwell side that had the wide descent carved out in the 60s or 70s? Was the toss of a coin - close, but no cigar.

A wee freshening up of the ad I guess.

Up for sale is my 2003 Audi S4 Quattro, benefiting from the excellent 6 speed manual gearbox.

Image

I have had the car since about April last year, and it has been great. Unfortunately, it has come time to move on, so I am looking to sell this in order to fund something else. That is not to say I wouldn't be interested in a px, but it is unlikely.

So we have here a 2003 (03) Audi 4.2 V8 Quattro S4. The flagship A4 of its time. It is a black 4-door saloon that benefits from a full electric recaro leather interior in cream. However, the dash is all still black, and has carbon fibre inlays, setting off the whole car a treat.

Image
Image

The interior also benefits from the inclusion of split / fold rear seats and the Ski-Bag through load capability. A rather rare extra in the saloon, and makes the car a little more practical (if ever a V8 can be accused of such a thing). I use this regularly for when I go ski-ing as it allows for 4 adults to be comfortably seated while still allowing my ski's to be transported on the inside of the car, thus increasing their security.

Image

Obviously, the usual S4 spec is all here and present. Electric windows all round, xenon lights, 18" Avus III alloys, dual zone climate control, power steering etc... I also have present both keys.

Image

The S4 currently has 92,000 miles on the clock, however, this will go up daily as the car is in use.

Image

The The vehicle comes with a full service history. Unfortunately, this history is not all Audi. However, with only 2 owners prior to myself, the first owner had all servicing carried out by Audi, where the second owner elected to get the car serviced somewhere he trusted. This can only be a good thing really, as then proper care and attention was taken. The last service, however, was not stamped in the book unfortunately. However, the receipt is present and the mileage is recorded.

Image
Image
Image

I have present here a genuine Audi oil filter, as well as 10l of Mobil 1 5w/30 for the next oil change, that can be included in the sale for the next service. Which should be due in a couple thousand miles or 50-odd days when sticking with a 1 year / 10,000 mile service schedule. I have recently replaced 3 coil packs as well as all the spark plugs as a result of a misfire having developed after a valeter decided to pressure wash the engine bay. Needless to say, he has since been sacked from ever touching this car again.

The car is HPI clear, and the mileage is correct, as checked with DVLA MOT history reports.

Image

Tax comes in at £134.75 (well it did last time I bought some), so this is not the scary £400+ of later S4's and the like (post 2006). The car is obviously in insurance group 20 (in old money), however, I find it the same to insure as a slightly modified VW Bora V6 4motion, so it is not exactly unreasonable. As for fuel economy. It isn't as bad as many expect. It certainly isn't up to diesel standards, but, as a rough guide, yesterday I drove around 120 miles on all different types of roads (I went ski-ing, again, so A-roads, B-roads and dual carriageways were all included), and averaged 24.6 mpg over the whole day out. Motorways will easily see high twenties so long as your not pushing it, but conversely, in town I see low twenties.

Image

Of course, anything is possible...

Image

Now, bad points. Every car has these, it would be stupid to suggest otherwise on a 7 year old car with 92k on it.

First up, the car has, unfortunately, received a small knock on the front end. The damage is small, however, it does cover the drivers side wing, front bumper and bonnet. I was going to have this fixed, and have received quotes in the £600 area for this, however, I have not as yet gotten round to it. Of course, there are a few stone chips to the bonnet, as would be expected on a car with this miles, so regardless of this knock, the car could of done with a front end freshen up, as any car this age could do. So its not like this is the worst thing in the world when looking at cars this age.

Anyway, here are some pictures.

Front, drivers side wing, damage leading off the headlight:
Image

Front drivers side wing. Damage lower down:
Image

Now the damage to the bumper is just little scratches that are virtually impossible to pick up with a camera. As is the damage to the bonnet. The bonnet has been put in a few mm at the grill on the passenger side. It is hard to see this without a full front, straight on picture. But this should help to show what I mean:

Image

As you can see, there is not much at all really, and could be fixed for little more than you may expect to do on a car of this age anyway. Having said that, the car has been priced accordingly, and a bargain could be had here. The only other exterior damage I have noticed is a small car park ding on the rear drivers side door. This is not very big, and the scratch may polish out with a skill-full hand, but perhaps not. Again, I have been unable to get a good picture of this to show.

Interior wise, well, the standard radio (which I can include) developed a common problem with regards to the volume button. This made the radio all but useless. As a result, it has been professionally replaced with a Kenwood XXV-01D 25th Anniversary head-unit that I had spare. This is the only non-standard part of the car, but it does have an Ipod lead (not fitted, but included), and will play MP3/WMA cd's also.

There is the usual interior wear of a car of this age / mileage, the worst of which is a small burn on the bottom of the rear backrest as can be seen here:

Image

Overall though it is a nice, honest car. With a genuine reason for the sale. Circumstances hopefully will change soon and I'll be able to keep her, but in the meantime, she will need to go.

The car is located in Angus, Scotland, and the buyer can be met at the local train station, or airport if required.

Price: £8000 for cash. Or £8500 for part exchange. Which, in my opinion, the car is worth every day of the week. And will represent a substantial loss for me. But the need for a diesel estate, at the moment, over-rides this. Although I would consider a px for a sporty petrol car up to the value of about £5k, so I can use the remainder of cash to purchase the aforementioned diesel.

I have near 100 photos available to view in my photobucket account. They can be viewed here:

http://s236.photobucket.com/albums/ff14 ... photos/S4/

These span from the day I received the car, up to today. And will be updated as more pictures are taken.

Thanks for your time reading this, and here are some more photos.

GLWS. Might as well remove that last pic of the engine bay - you already posted a much cleaner pic above. Not sure I'd fancy the risk of posting it, but you could always get the book stamped by the last garage.

Those Recaros look immaculate! Very few creases in the leather for the mileage, look way newer than mine at 69k - think the previous owner of mine was somewhat rotund. Got through load on my Avant - very rare on a saloon as you say to have split folding.

Respray wise, £600 sounds about right. Phantom Black Sportback cost £400 to have the bumper and one wing resprayed after a minor parking graze in front of the wheel arch right on the bloody join! Removed and painted whole bumper rather than blend to get rid of stone chips.

Dunno? I just heard the shot, and took cover. Someone else took the photo. I think the culprit was on the grassy knoll judging by the angle of entry.

Oh yeah. And too late to edit the pre-clean engine bay pic. Boooooooo

Passed MOT today with no advisories. So MOT'd until the 12th April 2012 (had a wee bit to go before it was due). So only one more MOT needed before doomsday. So come on, what else you gonna do for the last 20 months of existence? Drive a V8, thats what...

Surely this is about the cheapest V8 S4 going? Its not a dog as the price may suggest...
