DRC Shock Refurbishment

Dear all,

I currently own a 2014 with the DRC suspension system. Only 1 month of ownership, and whilst the car is great, I have noticed a slight knock (rear and front), mostly whilst in "Comfort" mode, and travelling on rough, broken roads or over speed humps. This issue is of course quite well documented. Vehicle is currently at the dealership, and diagnosed with a leaking front shock.

Does anyone know whether these items can be refurbished? If so, any contacts?

Many thanks

Good old DRC - fantastic when working, piece of junk when its not

I'm not sure these can be refurbished to be honest, at least from what I've seen. Worth bearing in mind that not all main dealers or independents have the kit to recharge the DRC either.

I've had mine in to Audi on 3 separate occasions with knocking and uncontrollable bouncing in dynamic. First time it was recharged, second time I the front right damper replaced as it was knocking/leaking and third time, actually turned out to be the front lower control arms (bushes were knackered both sides). All done under warranty though.

I do have a misting front left shock but as its not fully leaking warranty wont authorise replacement and currently have a small knock again on the damper that was replaced second time around but only when the system is cold. When its all warmed up, then it all seems fine.

Thanks for the response, most helpful.

The dealership came back to offer a 50% parts and labour goodwill gesture towards a replacement driver's side shock. I am however in talks with a company in Poland that rebuilds shock (nagengast). They have yet to confirm whether they can manage these particular ones.

Interesting to note that you had "uncontrollable bouncing" in Dynamic, as I experienced the same. Scary stuff!

Which year is your vehicle and how long has it been since you had the damper replaced? Satisfied?

Update from Nagengast that the cost of repair is 328 EUR per unit.

Recommend a watch of their video imbedded in their website that goes through an example damper repair process to appreciate the workmanship that goes into the refurb.

Looks like a good company, Only 122 EUR (£106) for a B7 RS4 shock refurb, will keep in mind and share on RS4 forum page.
