Odd issue with my 2016 RS6

Hi all, New to the forum and reasonably new owner of a 2016 RS6 performance. I have a very annoying although subtle issue with my car I hope somebody can shed some light on. I will try my best to describe it.

At let’s say 60mph on the road if I back off of the throttle and then gently press back on the engine seems to ‘jump’ back into life. When on the motorway working through traffic it happens a lot. So the engine sound gets marginally louder and when I press down on the throttle really gently it feels like it doesn’t want to go but then a tiny little bump and off we go. It is worse when on an incline. Car works perfectly at all other times other than this. Any thoughts? I know this car has the tech where it shuts down 4 of the 8 cylinders but Audi do say I should not be able to notice the transition. I don’t think as a passenger you would notice. I have had it in at Audi twice now and an engineer even came out with me and he agreed he could hear the engine change audibly and felt the ‘bump’ They handed it back and said they could find nothing but it 100% is still happening.

If you look at the efficiency view on the trip computer you’ll see when it drops in and out of 4 cylinder mode, so you can rule that in/out.
Might be the gearbox reengaging perhaps?

That’s a good shout. I’ll try that later. Just opened the garage and my floor is covered in water from my cooling system…it has been incredibly cold but not sure what’s happened. While in at Audi I’ll discuss this issue I’m having yet again. Driving me nuts wondering if it’s something that’s going to become more serious / expensive.
Thank you for your reply I really appreciate it.

Have you had the car scanned for fault codes?

Going to Audi tomorrow but won’t be seen to for a few days until there is a cancellation. Yes it was plugged in and scanned with zero faults. Throttle was reset and a few other bits and pieces checked but no faults found. Going a run with the engineer tomorrow again for him to witness the issue. Hopefully can get it in before it drains dry again!

Does it do it in comfort as well as dynamic?

I can feel mine change between 4 and 8 cylinder very gently in comfort but thus feature does not work at all in dynamic. That could rule out the 4/8 cylinder thought.

Only does it in comfort mode. Audi handed it back today and told me that when test driving it they do feel it but there is nothing wrong with the car at all. No error codes etc. The car drives perfectly but I just don’t feel this little sensation is normal. Saudirick what is it you feel? Can you describe it? I will be taking it a proper run in the next few days to check the 4 to 8 cylinder theory on the screen.

Try this, it does sound like cylinder deactivation. I can tell when mine (MY17 Performance) drops in/out from four to eight cylinders (the exhaust note noticeably changes although mine has a Miltek).

Seems to me like it is indeed coinciding with jumping back from 4 to 8 cylinder mode. If in traffic at roughly 60mph though it is quite noticeable and a little annoying. Thank you so much to you all for taking the time to reply to me. I really appreciate it.
