Came back from offshore today to find the passenger front and rear foot wells soaking wet!!! Can see tell tale signs of water that’s appears to have been dripping down from the passenger front plastic in the footwell nearest the door, just under the glove box. Any ideas what might be causing this? Tried Pouring water down the windscreen, passenger windows, a pillars etc but can’t seem to trace where it’s coming from. Any help would be appreciated.

On the Q7 (im new to the rs6) i had, the water runs from the sunroof runoff down the pillar, into the front arch, where there is a bung that is supposed to allow it to drain under the body. These get caked in crap and leaves from the gap where the wipers sit. I had to pull off the arch liner find the bung and take it out, scoop all the leaves and crap out with my finger, flush it with multiple buckets of water till it runs freely and then replace the bung (and a little filter thing). Its not a big job but was a worth it.

Hope this helps and is the same issue and not something bigger.

Cheers Sandy, will have a look at it tomorrow when I get a chance. Used the wet vac on the carpets and had the heaters on full blast yesterday which has dried the carpets out. Mission tomorrow is to find the drain holes and make sure they are clear.

I had this happen on my old BMW and yes turned out to be a blocked drain hole, so I reckon sandy is right. Useful vid that too - Cheers Sandy.

On the BM the bung was under the cover by the windscreen wipers, so you got to it by opening the bonnet and removing the rear bonnet seal then the plastic cover, then the cabin filters (and at that point you could see the apature full of water). BUT I dont know if this will be different on the 6. But might be worth a look, as from the wheel arch it will be hard to clean out all the crap that will be lying in the apature above (if that makes sense)....

Do let us know how you get on AND if you remember, once you have located the drain hole, do take a photo of its location just for the record!

It might also be worth checking \ cleaning the other side too!

Might get a chance to have a look when I get home this afternoon. Ill let you know how I get on and get a pic of the drain holes. It’s in the garage tomorrow for a check over since getting the new turbos fitted. Plus point is it’s running sweet now haha

That is good to hear!!!

It will be much easier to get the wheel \ wheel arch liner off etc to get to the drain plugs when its in the garage on the ramp!!

Think I might just let the garage sort it. Being lazy

So.......it appears to be the dreaded sunroof cassette that’s leaking.

Sunroof 'cassette' ? What's that? Is it the main seal that runs round the entire sunroof?

Have they checked the drainage holes? As I would have thought the sunroof would sit in some kind of 'gully' so that the water is channelled down to the drainage holes like Sandy described???

Yeah Lig, drainage holes are clear. The cassette is where the sunroof sits and operates from. Looking online shows that this is a fairly common issue on A6s with pan roof. The garage had 2 other A6s in with the same issue thismorning. £2.2k for new cassette and labour charges. Went to Glasgow Audi thismorning and kicked up a stink about it. Not very helpful as the car didn’t have full Audi main dealer history as it was specialist serviced all it’s life. Bad day when you fork out so much for a “top of the range” car and they don’t want to know. Just need to find somewhere to put it out the rain until I can get it fixed.

What a bummer. You haven't had much luck with that car.... So does the cassette fail? Can it not be repaired somehow??

Tell me about it Lig! Been a nightmare but I won’t be beaten by it. Reminds me of my old Impreza, spent more time in the garage than on the driveway.

Apparently the bonding between the metal and plastic plates fails over time (bad design). If the car is parked with the bonnet facing downhill the water seems to run down the drain holes ok. It’s only when the water is too much and it back fills up the running rails that there’s a problem. It appears that the water get between the plastic and metal plates and runs down the A pillar plastic into the footwell.

Hoping the fact I’ve bought a few cars from Glasgow Audi that I’ll get some kind of good will discount. I’ll fight for it anyway given the fact that the cars only 4 years old. We will see how it pans out. Can’t get it booked in until the 3rd week in January so will have to park downhill until then and hope it doesn’t leak while I’m offshore. Bloody think is 30cm too long to fit in my garage

Ah I see. That is a shame about your Garage, maybe you need to knock some bricks out at the front end!!

My car is in the dealers for the same issue but on the drivers side. When they had it in before the issue could not be found as wasn’t raining that much but now is pours down daily the carpet just stays wet. I have got my local audi dealer and the Audi dealer I purchased the car from to liaise with each other to get the issue resolved.
