C7 RS6 Propshaft - Vibration

Post by Fat Head » Thu Dec 12, 2019 6:13 pm

Hi all

So i have a 2014 C7 RS6 and it has a vibration on acceleration and clunking noise
I have been to awesome GTI who said it was the centre propshaft that needs replacing
New prices are £1600 inc vat and i dont fancy paying that haha

the part number is 4G0521101M

My question is, after a quick google, there are plenty of parts available with that part number from A6/A7 variants but different revisions

Does the M revision mean anything, compared to an E or K for example

I would rather try fitting a 2nd hand part for a couple hundred quid rather than fork out almost 2 grand

I have been told the earlier revision should fit but id like to be confident before i buy anything

Anyone else replaced theirs?

4G0521101M is RS6/RS7 specific, this supercedes the older part 4G0521101J

4G0521101F/K fits S6/S7

4G0521101E/G/L fit A6/A7

Nothing wrong with your propshaft/driveshaft. It is the rubber bushing of the carrier that is breaking down. Sad part is, somehow audi decided to make it a 1 piece item, so the stock carrier can't be replaced. Silly rabbit motorsport makes replacements, more robust and with polyurethaan bushing (need to remove and cut of the stock one).
Sadely a bit overpriced and could be there will be a long delivery time on these.

In worst case, but not sure if anybody every did...you could try remove all rubber parts around the carrier and ball bearing. Lock everything in position and fill the void with liquid polyurethaan. So basicly make your own bushing.....

Granted, his mounts are milled so it takes some machine time to make them. For what it is worth, i once asked him and mentioned for European customers it becomes a very expencive carrier if you add import taxes/shipment etc... He quoted me a price that made you wonder how big the profit on these are (and i bet nobody sells something without making a loss). In the end it was still too much imho and decided to make my own carrier. Yeah a complete replica of his carrier but i waterjet them by local Shop....50€ including the alu material. Made bushing lip myself including drilling and taping the bolt holes. Still need to fab the bushings but that is about 30€ (material for 2-3 bushings).

Quick update, I was unable to find an “M” revision online that was reasonably priced and good condition

I found a J revision from Poland which worked out at £300 posted so will give that a go and hopefully it sorts it.

I went to awesome gti and they said they think it’s the propshaft causing it and the seals at the rear appear to be dry

Will post up the results, I’m going to have a go at fitting it myself.

The carrier upgrade thing is defo overpriced, great for what it does but I’m sure I can get one made for half the price over here in the U.K.
