Ceramics - Worth it?
Ceramics - Worth it?
Hi guys,
I've seen a Performance Plus that ticks almost all of my boxes, maybe a little higher mileage than I wanted but still acceptable.
Question is are the ceramics good as a daily driver (not tracking it) and how long do they last? Any warping, unusual wear etc?
Also was there a facelift after 2016 ('16 plate)
Cheers

Re: Ceramics - Worth it?
I had ceramics on my PE - no issues apart from occasion squeaking noise if I recall. I loved them once I got used to their fun in the wet where you initially get nothing, then find yourself pressed against the windscreen.
Its an option I definitely want again. Wear was superb.

Thanks Mikey,
they have done 49k miles and I'm not familiar with them so I wasn't sure if they need replacing at any time? I'm a bit apprehensive as it is a very good spec and cheap (relatively). The dealer has knocked 4% off of his APR, offered to buy my cars finance out in full as well as throw in GAP and Autoglym paint protection. Too good to be true?

Replacement on discs is between 80 and 100k - they were a life saver on my C6.

What was his starting APR? For reference I'm in a similar position and via Lloyds, I have finance in place at 5.4% APR - I just need to make up my mind on two very different cars.Shagga wrote: ↑Thu Sep 26, 2019 12:16 pmThanks Mikey,

BTW I'm not sure if you are aware but Audi have a promotion on at the moment that applies a two year warranty to all used RS6 sales, one garage I've been speaking to were completely up front about this, the other knew nothing about the scheme (despite having three used RS6's in stock!)

12.9% down to 8.9%.mrmerle wrote: ↑Thu Sep 26, 2019 2:52 pmWhat was his starting APR? For reference I'm in a similar position and via Lloyds, I have finance in place at 5.4% APR - I just need to make up my mind on two very different cars.Shagga wrote: ↑Thu Sep 26, 2019 12:16 pmThanks Mikey,

Wasn't aware of that deal but also can't see a model with Audi that i want. My local Audi dealers are all at least 10.9%.

Re: Ceramics - Worth it?
I use this online calculator to give me an idea on likely finance costs;
http://bretwhissel.net/cgi-bin/amortize
As an example, the difference between 8.9% and 5.4% on £55k over 48 months with a £25k RV would be £123 per month, or almost £6,000 over the full term. GAP and Autoglym can't be much more than £500 to a dealer.

Re: Ceramics - Worth it?
No point taking out car finance as apr’s are extremely high. Try taking out personal loan via few banks that offer low rate apr. I’ve done that when buying my 6, 2.9%apr through tesco bank and money was in my bank in 2-3 days. Finance companies rip you off big time

Re: Ceramics - Worth it?
Answering the OP’s original question ceramics are well worth it if a car has them. Just had an 80k inspection and my ceramics were just over 20% worn, discs and pads.
Squeal like a pig initially when cold / wet but a few stabs and they are immense and never fade.
Have heard of some C7 owners getting through 2-3 sets of steels in the same mileage

Re: Ceramics - Worth it?
Loving my ceramics:
pro's:
almost no dust
if you don't abuse them, they can last very long (like mentioned above, heavy weight monster and automatic so steel brake/pad eaters)
good performance
looks good
con's:
be super carefull when you swap wheels, you do not want to touch them and clip the boarder
when wet or snowy (after long highway drive), pre breaking is a MUST! (or set pre break whiping to high but even then)
don't abuse them as they still can be burned (= super squeel! -> replacement)
When i shopped for my S6, ceramics was more of a must compaired to have a base RS6.
But you do might want to inspect the discs on defaults, hairline cracks between holes or chips before you buy the car!
If the grey calipers have a golden shade, slowly walk away from the car (hard street or track abuse)
.
Luckly the ceramics are only one thing you might want to look in, oil service/oil screen/turbo/pcv/motormounts/or any other malfunction that pops up during a VCDS scan....
Never the less, good luck and enjoy

Re: Ceramics - Worth it?
Hi Lig,
I went for the Nardo with black wheels. Got a deal which meant it worked out cheaper than the other Nardo and it's newer, less miles, Audi warranty until April 2020, better wheels and better spec overall.
Fingers crossed I could have it by the weekend.

Re: Ceramics - Worth it?
Nice one, so that's the one from SCC? I have just watched the vid and its a stunner!!
Looks like it has got new brake discs on as well so wants for nothing!!
Better choice of colour over the black IMO.
Will look forward to hearing from you when you actually have it!!
Cheers,
Lig.
