The oil service warning has just appeared, anyone know if it's purely an oil and filter job? If so I will probably use an independent but if there's more to it I'll go Audi.

Edited to add that I've been quoted £391 for an oil change.

My Audi dealer wanted £600+
Local independent VAG specialist was £180
scary.

I don’t! Depends which indy, I got a great price for my S7 and my previous RS6 and the S4 before that, all serviced at MRC.

Agree, we've been using the same indy for the last 12 years - cars will only go to Audi (reluctantly) for warranty work.
We have always got good re-sale / trade in values for our cars - it has been said on more than one occasion that people prefer to see that a car has been serviced by an good indy
Two of our previous Audi's still go to the same Indy we use.

A recent oil & filter change including changing service intervals from long life to fixed & registering the service on Audi erWin - £200.00

Who said anything about servicing? I take it you always go to the main dealer for tyres and new wiper blades then, just in case? For some time now I have used a specialist Indie, using OEM parts, when dealing with consumables such as brakes, oil etc. My more recent list of cars include a B8 RS4, SQ5, 997GTS and 991S and I can honestly say that I have never had any issues at all come trade in or resale. It's your choice of course, but when you can save £250 on an oil change or a similar amount on 4 new tyres with no effect whatsoever on the value of your car (in my experience) it's a no brainer.

In 7 RS car's ownership over 12+ years, I've always used Audi for the first service, then indie's for everything which didn't require VAG diags or plugging in. I always ask for the TPS reciepts for parts and consumables and keep them in the glovebox with the service hist. Not had a warranty claim denied due to this, ever. The one time I didn't have the option and had to use the main dealer for a spark plugs / filters and fluids service at 50k (I think) the main stealer left a lot of the jubilee clips from breathing lines loose, I drove up the road and had no boost, flat as hell, opened the bonnet to a loose hose and oil everywhere.(!)

Audi have been known to replace engines for free outside of warranty on cars with full dealer service history. For me that's clearly worth an extra £200 a year which is nothing really compared to the cost of running these cars. I used indies for things like brakes pads etc but annual service always went to audi.

They replaced multiple wheel bearings on my C6 cars, a known fault apparently and wasn't affected by non dealer history. If you use proper VAG parts, there is no reason to be treated any differently to a Audi full service history owner. Strange how the monopolies' commission don't ever seem to pick on the motor trade, isn't it. The point I'm making is what is there to set apart the labour quality at Audi versus a good Indie, especially when Audi dealers have mis diagnosed and screwed up the most simple of jobs; everyone's human and has free choice.

Thant’s why I always do everything at Audi even after warranty is over
