Wet carpets both sides C7

Hi everyone,
Thought I'd share with you my woe.

. Car is at the dealer as I speak, and has been for over 2 weeks. It is a 2014 car with a Audi warranty till the end of January. Water is running down from behind the dash and soaking the carpets both sides. First of all they said there was a blockage in the plenum chamber but it has cleared now.( How can a blockage clear itself?) They say it needs new carpets, a control unit that sits in the footwell because it is defective (everything was working when I left the car with them) and a seal. £2700!! The car is under warranty till the end of the month but apparently this is not covered. Wel it wouldn't be as surely they would not expect this to happen in the first place
.
I've told them I am not paying for this as I don't expect an 7k car to leak water, let alone one costing 70k

. Then they said they would like to investigate further to make sure they know where the water is coming in, but at my cost, therefore 2 hours labour, £300!! Gets better doesn't it.
I called Audi UK on Friday 11th, and was promised a call back by Tuesday 15th latest. Heard nothing until yesterday when I was told I would receive another call on Monday presumably with a verdict. Watch this space!
I'm disgusted with Audi over this. Even if it is not covered, I would have thought they would want to help me with this, for good customer relations as it must be unusual.
but instead it seems they want to get as much as they can out of me from a problem that should not arise in the first place.
Anybody of this problem with the C7?
Thanks.

C7 2013- I’ve had a wet drivers side carpet sometimes, but I’ve put it down to rain.
Not sure where’s its coming from, but sometimes when it rains, I get a wet carpet, but sometimes when it rains, it’s dry....
It’s dry most of the time, can’t remember the last time I noticed wet carpets, so not that worried, cars now out of extended warranty.
Be interested in hearing the conclusion of what’s caused your water issue.

Thank you for this. Interesting. I'll update on my situation when I know more.

I don't know the geometry of the C7, but for comparison the earlier D2 S8/A8 suffered from water ingress due to blockages in several areas.
If the car gets parked under trees/foliage it's very easy for crud to block things up and cause overflow of rainwater/condensate that ends up in the car.
For a D2 the main areas are:
1. Scuttle at the bottom of the windscreen. This is big in capacity and has big drains, but they can still get blocked with leaves/seeds.
2. A D2-specific weakness under the bonnet above the passenger footwell known as "Botang's hole" that is poorly-sealed in RHD cars.
3. Sunroof drains. A common problem on many Audis.
4. Aircon condensate drains. Can get blocked with small debris (e.g. blowing seeds) meaning water extracted when drying air end up in the car not outside.
In my case the real villains are Birch seeds, the little swines get everywhere even though the nearest tree is the other side of my house!
You just need some weakness in the seals somewhere and they can work their way in. In my case it was a combination of things, but mainly a poor seal at the bottom of the windscreen allowing small debris to get into the cabin air intake bypassing the filters AND larger bits to get into the scuttle.

HP Sauce thank you for this. Spoke to Audi UK again yesterday and told them everything - again - and they're supposed to be calling me on Thursday.
I can't get my head around the fact that in a modern car water can get inside. My only other experience of this was my Mk 2 Escort back in 1983! This is just unacceptable IMO.

Hi all,
Sorry it's been a while, but I did get this sorted - no thanks to Audi. The main dealer diagnosed a previously blocked plenum chamber, and kindly suggested I should fit all new carpets, control unit in footwell, wiring loom for said control unit, and a seal. Cost - £2700!!

The sunroof was checked and waterways etc, and all was well here. They politely reminded me that water ingress was not covered under warranty.
It's a long long story, but when all said and done, neither the dealer, nor Audi UK would help, so, disgusted, 5 weeks later I took the car away, and sent it to an independent specialist. The next day they called me with their diagnosis - a faulty wind deflector at the sunroof - the main dealer ruled this out! Sure enough, all is ok again, and dry as a bone.
I will never give Audi another penny.

I had a similar experience with my m5 about a year ago...I had the water seels on both rear doors fail leading to wet rear carpets....Whislt being diagnosed at the dealer the car miraculously developed a leak through the bulkhead of the car leading to the front now being soaked
They told me that the part to replace was no more than 2 quid but I was left with a labour charge of 4k and the same rubbish stating that it was not covered under warranty due to water ingress.
Icing on the cake was when I read the report which stated that they had to remove the exhaust to access the bulkhead which was complete rubbish. I filed a complaint with BMW centrally who offered to cover half the cost but this was not acceptable in my mind. I then filed a complain with the retail ombudsman which basically got no where...
All on all, this experience was enough for me to never want to buy a BMW again...Car was ultimately fixed at significant cost to myself but ive been trying to sell it privately for the last 6 months in order to get into an rs6 however everyone is trying to rob me so no RS6 just yet!

I had a problem with mine. It was diagnosed as leaking Bose speaker units in the doors! To my knowledge the had never been removed. I had the carpets replaced, thankfully the company that I bought the car from covered most of the cost.

I had the same earlier this year, strangely enough when I first noticed it the wind delflector on the sunroof was soaking wet. Mind you this went back to the supplying dealer after the carpets were dry and of course could not find an issue.

Same issue here, car delivered to workshop not less than 4 times, and 2 times dissembled the whole interior.
«Blocked canals» was the statement, pherhaps also leekage from the canal hose connection.
Then i got sick of the time spendt delivering the car back and fort, not having time for this bullshit, got the
Shop to dismantle the roof lining and i drove around 2 weeks with the whole roof exposed from inside.
I started experimenting with a water bottle i made together with a 5mm hose, that i slided in the cracks and corners of the sunroof so that i could test it to the limit.
See the grease on the picture, this flux build-up, Builds a «bridge» for the water. Where the water usually leads away from the inside it now started filling over (when car was parked in «the right angle») first soaking the noise-shield that is made of fine cloth, then on to the top of the roof lining, leading onwards to the dash on both sides.
One thin flat-headed screwdriver covered with paper, just easily cleaning the grease away and i have not seen one drop of water in the car ever again
Your’e welcome
