Theft excess - WOW!

Hi all. I haven't announced myself as a newbie yet but I will tomorrow (picking up a 2017 RS6 PE tomorrow

) Sorting out car insurance today and am getting wildly varying quotes. Some fine, some crazy - but that's always the case with insurance. Anyhoo, as my home cover is with NFU (and has been for many years) I thought I'd give them a try. Very happy with the quoted premium but rather astonished to learn they have a compulsory £1600 theft excess given the vehicle type. £1600! The premium they have quoted is only £480-ish.
Is this common? I've never owned an RS6 before. Lots of Porsches and other exotica. Do you folks all have stonking theft excesses too?
Cheers.

So far mine has been the same as my fire or accident excess which I think is about £500. I'm guessing it might go up this year then.

Porsche’s don’t tend to get stolen but these do so whilst wrong , I could understand why some insurers would take that view

Has the NFU insisted on any additional security devices? Are does the offer of fitting extra security help to tame this issue?

Churchill for me - Mandatory Excess £500
parked driveway
no requirement for tracker ( was the same with LVE who I was previously with)
£540 annual premium (but me thinks that will increase when I finally get my points and fine through!!!)

Due to wife writing our Cayenne off in the summer, I took a voluntary excess of £1k when insuring the C7 with Swiftcover at the weekend as I keep her as a named driver (it is her daily driver after all). No special exception for theft excess, 8 years NCD and opted for the PI cover and recovery addon too. Still managed to come in under £600, which was great considering the £70k+ claim woman got us in to....

They gave a decent discount for having a Cat 5 tracker but didn't insist on it. I will go back and query the size of the theft excess given the tracker. I would have expected that to come down.

Getting better. They will waive the theft excess entirely if the car is stolen from my garage (which has a commercial grade door and is alarmed)

Is your theft excess influenced by your postcode perhaps?

Would be strange if it was. I live in the countryside in a sleepy part of Scotland.
