Initialised keys

When I picked up my car 3 weeks ago I got 2 keys, but on the MMI in the car it’s states 3 keys are initialised. The car went back to the dealers and have stated the 3rd key is the emergency key which was not with the car when it was sold and this cannot be taken off the the intitialised keys. When someone gets a spare min who has not got the emergency key can you see how many keys are initialised to their car please.

Not sure this helps but I have 3 keys initialised on MMI and have the 2 main keys and the plastic one.

The plastic key is the third key. Can’t see why they can’t delete it. Someone’s telling porkies.

As far as I knew they code on or code off as required with the software weird they are saying it can't be done . 2 keys coded to mine bud.

Are you the same just the 2 normal remotes and no plastic one?

I had the exact same, 3 keys in the MMI but only two keys (no plastic one). I had the dealer re register with just the keys I had.

Where do all the plastic keys go then? You think people keep hold of them deliberately or just that they get lost?

I hope you guys are aware that the plastic key will manually open your car doors and switch the car alarm off for irrc 30 secs. If I were buying an RS6 without the spare plastic key I’d be demanding that all the locks be changed. But that’s me.

Yes I know this. I was saying even if the dealer deleted the key it would still manually unlock through the door handle.

Exactly. It gives a potential thief 30 seconds do what IT likes. I’m not sure how long it takes to plug into OBD and do what they do but 30 seconds is 30 seconds too long.

Bit side topic, but tought i heard it was a 'good idea' and possible to register more keys (i tought the car accepted 5) so thieves couldn't obd program their own extra key once they break in the car. Maybe this info is outdated...but maybe it isn't AND it isn't all that simple to delete registered keys to the car (and car maybe has to be linked to mainframe in germany to get access to delete them)?
On topic, like others said, i would prush dealer to seriously look into this. Already bad enough thieves run around with hacking software tools, let alone there would be keys around 'for sale' (in worst case)...

Probably easier to fit an aftermarket alarm / immobiliser that disables the OBD port unless the alarm is turned off. Or move the OBD port behind the dahs end covers so cannot be used unless the door is opened first.
