Which Fuel?

Shell V-Power is 99 RON and considered the best in the UK at the moment. Tesco offer a 99 RON called Momentum but I've heard its awful stuff with ethanol used to boost the supermarket blend to 99 RON. Needless to say I'll not be fueling up at Tesco again.

BP released a 102 RON fuel to service the track day market (not a huge marketplace but fair play to them for doing this) and I wondered if anyone has used this fuel before? If so, where from?

Does anyone know of a fuel which offers a higher octane than V-Power? I know that its commonplace in Germany but as far as I can see here in the UK 99 is a general limit. Furthermore, have you ever used an octane booster with a full tank?

MRC recommended Momentum over V Power after a stage 3 tune on my C5.
They've experienced issues when some customers that have filled up on what they've thought is "V Power" turns out to be lower octane unleaded....Doug seemed to think there are a few unscrupulous Shell franchises around, whereas, Tesco aren't run as a franchise and have a reputation to protect, so presumably, you're getting what you pay for.
Fuel for thought aye?

I get the whole franchise thing, its a good point. Someone else once told me about the quality of the detergents used in Tesco fuel and this put me off a bit too, along with the ethanol issue I mentioned earlier.

I use momentum all the time. As stated MRC did dyno tests with various fuels and Momentum came out top. I've read that the tesco fuel isn't as good as the Shell equivalent but I've had no issues and know of no one else with issues either.

Primary difference between the two is the detergents. It’s TESCO value vs TESCO finest in that respect. The latter will pay dividend, for me I’ve seen no discernible difference in performance and price is same same, in fact often I can get Shell cheaper.

I think the ethanol content is now the same.

There is no Shell near me but when I do find them on my travels I'm sure there is a sizable price difference.

Depends on the location and competition. My nearest TESCO has a monopoly for a good five miles. Nearest Shell doesn’t.

There is no discernible difference in performance between Momentum and Vpower however the later can be anywhere between 8 and 21p per litre more than the former and it definitely is not that much better.

I used to run a tank of VPower for every 4 Momentum but I refuse to use Shell now because their pricing is all over the place between their stations, ripping customers off and then there are the issues stated above that you don’t always get VPower when you think you should

I use either V power or Tesco 99. Both feel identical in terms of performance and they give me around the same Mileage. Tbh never had an issue with Tesco 99. Would definitely use it over any 95 Ron.

BP own ARAL who do 102 in Germany which gives you wings.
I use Tesco 99 preferred or V Power, both stations are equidistant from where I live. I do find Shell garages to be the cleanest and Tesco's the dirtiest. Diesel splashed all over the other pump handles from tarts filling their sh1t heaps up with the devils fuel and not taking care when and where they splash.

Classic, true words . I remember the days of having a alcantara steering wheel in the 911 and being seething when I had to deal with the horror left by the above !

I use gloves/tissue whenever I fill up, regardless of where I am now. Too many times have I filled the wife’s GTD before and had diesel on my hands afterwards.

Terms of fuel, V-Power as the station is closer, but i’d also use Tesco Momentum aswell. In Brussels I use V-Power as again it’s closer, literally drive past it when I go to work

Just been to a local tuning garage near me and they say that Costco premium is great. They map for only Costco, Vpower or Testco.

Do 98 ron not enough to use? 102 or 100 can be too much for engine that can cause detonations, look at fuel doors Sticker Audi recommends 95-98 ron on rs6 cars
