Some help please

Post by Has23 » Thu Dec 28, 2017 1:15 am

Hi Guys

My first post here;

I have ordered a new rs6 PE being built and due for arrival mid february 18.

Just wanted some advice from you guys with experience:

I have a Bmw M4 which I had lowered as soon as I bought it March 16. The car has been a pain to live with for many reasons but one of them being that it would scrape on it underside at most speed bumps. I think it was one of the exhaust brackets.

I don’t want that to happen with rs6 so would you guys recommend lowering it or leaving it.
For those that have lowered it just enough to close the gap between tyre and arch do you experience any scraping?

Part two of the same question; my car has the dynamic pack- how is the ride quality and how bad will it get if I lower it?

There’s a guy on Instagram called ‘falla’ I think he is based in jersey. He has black number plates on his car and they look amazing in my opinion. Would you recommend this I know they aren’t entirely legal but I’ve been running them on my Harley and never had a problem.

Exhaust- I’ve been looking into this I can get a very good deal on either a miltek cat back non res or Larini same set up.
Any recommendations on either or should I go for a custom set up from someone like fourie?
I’d have to order this weekfrom either of the two above to get the discount.

Last question: do the cars come with garage door opener as standard I couldn’t see it on the options lists when spec’ing.

I haven’t had the chance to drive the car due to a massive fall out with my local dealer.

I have ended up ordering from a dealer miles away.

Thanks for the help

Yes I know Falla, he lives in Guernsey where the black number plates are legal. They also look good as they are just numbers with no letters. I assume you are in the UK? If so then black plates are only legal on really old vehicles. Maybe a Harley is not so easy to spot if it is old enough for black plates or not? I think driving around in a modern car with them will get you stopped but it's your choice and risk. Many of us run with illegally spaced plates or missing frobt plates but more often than not this means you get stopped and sometimes fined.

And the exhausts are all good sounding but very different. I had a back to back demo with about 7 cars with all sorts of exhausts including the Larini, Milltek, deleted centre resonators, fourie downpipes with standard cat back and standard downpipes with fourie cat back. I have a video somewhere but it's hard to tell the differences on film. In real life they all sounded great; Larini was much deeper than all the others, but my favourite was the fourie downpipes with standard cat back.

Oh and with regards to lowering; mine is lowered 40mm all round. The front is pretty low and I will scrape the front splitter on very steep car park ramps etc but for general driving it is OK. The 20mm springs might be a better bet which will close the wheel arch gap slightly but still make it pretty drivable. But the best bet is the KW adjustable springs as this way you can get the car dead level (cars from about 2016 onwards don't seem to sit level on lowering springs) and also get the height just right and lift it a little if it's scraping.
The ride is firm in Dynamic mode. However lowering doesn't change this. The springs change the height, the shocks change the ride so if you lower with springs only and not full coil overs you won't affect the ride.

I’ve got a 2016rsplus, it’s been to litchfields and been remapped to 715 bhp , not that it needed it.... a fantastic car.. I use it as my daily and road trips in europe, nearly on 30k enjoyable miles...

Thanks for all the help guys;

I’ve ordered the kw adjustable springs- thanks mike

I’ve emaiked fourie customs regarding the exhaust but haven’t had a response I’ll give them a call tomorrow.

Just two questions.

1. Does anyone on here have the kw adjustable springs and if so what is the best setting for the car not to scrape over speed bumps. As I said before my M4 scrapes as soon as I go any faster than 5mph or have a passenger.

2. Does the original exhaust have to be cut to fit a cat back exhaust. My previous F10 M5 had to have the exhaust cut to fit my Turner race cat back.

3. I have spec’d the dynamic pack how comfortable is the car in comfort mode and how bad is it in dynamic mode?

Can’t wait till March for the car to arrive now.

Oh and I’ll take the advice and not go for the black number plates. Can’t be bothered with the agravation.
