Smart Phone Interface Retrofit

Apologies if this is in the wrong place. I have just purchased a 2015 RS6 which does not have the smart phone interface on the MMI. I had a google (Audi smart phone retrofit) and found on the Audi
Shop website
https://shops.audi.com/en_GB/web/zubeho ... m0051472-9 sorry couldn’t find a way to hyperlink, that Audi offer the retrofit on 2015 RS6's for 250 Euros. They say it isn’t available on the A6 until 2017 but it is on the RS6 2015. I can’t find it available on the Audi UK site. I called Audi Customer Service and they say it isn’t available in the UK and must be a third-party product. I explained it is their own site and just kept being told it can’t be an Audi genuine part or site and Audi don’t sell anything in Euros! I had a go at suggesting that Audi probably do sell in Euros but lost the will to live. Does anyone know anything about this? Clearly it is available unless I am more stupid than I wish to think. I wondered if Audi in Europe are more helpful. I am in Germany, France, Netherlands quite a lot so I could book it in over there I assume? First experiences of Audi customer service are not great to be honest. Any experience advice or guidance very much appreciated.

SPI is only available for MY17 RS6’s, it can’t be activated on earlier cars due to hardware and software changes added in MY17 that are absent on earlier models.

Have a chat with Hazzydayz. I have a MY16 facelift without it and they say it should be possible to retrofit, but are waiting to get hold of a software update for the MMI

Thanks for the responses. I have had confirmation from Audi in Germany that the May 16 build onwards RS6 just requires the 250 Euro retrofit codes, no hardware or other software at all, you buy a piece of paper with codes on it, your Audi dealer then puts the codes in and has to do some update online with Audi so I guess depending on your relationship you may or may not get a further charge. It seems 2015 / early 2016 RS6’s require some additional software which isn’t as yet released but no hardware at all. They acknowledged that their website lists the 2015 RS6 as compatible with the 250 Euro upgrade however they have yet to resolve the additional software issue. The 2015 and 2016 A6 and S6 require hardware and software which effectively means they can’t have it, 2017 onwards is just the 250 Euro upgrade. I will email hazzydayz with my vin and all the software versions and codes and see what they say but I’m now not so hopeful of an easy sort for my car. Poor really given the plaudits the mmi system seems to have accumulated.

Interesting I have contacted both Hazzydayz and Audi Huntingdon about my facelift RS6and they both say that it isn’t compatible yet.
Mine is a May 2015 model, so interested to see if anyone is successful with a car the same age.

I'd also be interested in knowing if it is possible, I have a March 2016 RS6 with MMI Navigation Plus Touch (not with Audi Connect) which I got last week and originally asked the dealer to add this to the car as part of the deal but they responded saying it can't be done on a pre 2017 model, I've also emailed Huntingdon Audi and they also state it is not be upgraded.

Last time I spoke to HazzyDayz they were still waiting availability of the MMI firmware update.

I regularly use Apple Car Play on my MY 2016 (delivered Dec.'16) RS6 Performance and its Audi Connect; am I wrong in thinking that it has the SPI being discussed?

Apple Car play is the smartphone interface in question - so yes, you have it. (not the same as Audi Connect - you can have one without the other)

If your car was built and delivered in late 2016, then it's a MY17 not a MY16. SPI is "Smartphone Interface".

To be honest I think the apple CarPlay interface is quite underwhelming.
I think Waze is better for navigation (than apple maps) so I have my phone in a holder anyhow and the apps available via CarPlay are limited.
And if someone else is using your phone and goes to another app then the CarPlay display goes back to main menu on the MMI display.
Im not sure if the android version is better?
For some reason in my car the volume of phone calls isn’t great either, I have to have the volume up to maximum to hear the caller, but it’s also the same via Bluetooth, so maybe my phone is problem. Anyone else have that problem?

I have retrofitted an aftermarket interface to my 2016 car, this gives me Carplay & Android auto, it is all controlled via the MMI and all plug and play, now using Waze on the MMI which is great.

Sounds very interesting. Who makes that? Does it simply copy what the Audi smartphone interface would have done? Interested to know how it all integrates!
