I've been looking for a black car with comfort seats for a while, obviously very few about. A towbar on it's own doesn't concern me but a vanity plate that broadcasts the cars towing ability makes me wonder what it's been pulling. I plan to keep the car several years, in the worst case that it's been pulling 2100kg for 29000 miles should I be concerned or will such a torquey car shrug off such things? Also it says the towbar is manually swivelling when the RS6 configurator only currently offers electric towbars- was this a factory option at the time the car was built?

The dealer tried to find out what it has been towing - all they could tell me was that it was traded in at a Porsche dealer somewhere in SE England. If anyone here knows the car any info would be appreciated. If I can't find what it has been towing I'm inclined to walk away or is this over-cautious on a dealer approved car with warranty?

They would know which Porsche dealer. I’m down in the South. It may have been owned by a recovery chap ie TOW. If you can get the dealer name and it’s local to me I’ll pop in πŸ‘πŸ‘

That's a really kind offer Skirs6 but it makes me realise I could find the dealer and call them myself and save you the effort. But top marks for the suggestion.

Ive got a tow hook on mine. Ordered the car from new and yes its fully electric although the last part of the deployment you pull into place so that you hear and feel it click and lock if that makes sense.

Ive towed a caravan - not that often perhaps 3-4 time a year and the car handles it very well. Not had any issues towing - infact one of the most stable cars ever towing- very secure. There are elec buttons in the boot I recall to deploy the hook.

If this one is manual then that would imply its after market. I thought if speced from new there are some other adjustments one being the sensors but also the stability control. I think it would be important to find out who installed the tow hook? was it audi approved etc.

I left a E63 AMG because I could not get an official tow bar fitted as it was not type approved - it would tow but not with warranty hence moving to the RS6

It rings a bell that I may have seen it

I'm sure my Porsche dealer, mid sussex Porsche, is attend group, you could try them

I like the idea that it was owned by the owner of a recovery firm rather than used to tow all of the time!

Was unable to track down any info on the car so bought it anyway and will cross my fingers. Pick it up tomorrow. I'll be able to cover it with the Audi warranty for the duration of my ownership so not worth losing sleep over. Thanks for the help and comments.
