C8 to get 700hp 'Hybrid' option

Post by kmpowell » Sat Sep 23, 2017 7:27 am

Evo Magazine wrote:Audi’s forthcoming new RS7 Sportback will be offered in two states of tune when it goes on sale late in 2018, Marc Lichte, Head of Design, has confirmed to evo.

A conventional new RS7 will be powered by an all-new 4-litre, twin-turbo V8 producing 650bhp. A second, more powerful, hybrid model will be sold alongside it; it features the same electric motor set-up as that fitted to Porsche’s Panamera Turbo S E-hybrid. This hybrid-powered RS7 is expected to produce in the region of 700bhp.

Based on an all-new platform due for release later this year, the conventional RS7 will utilise the VW Group’s ubiquitous 4-litre, twin-turbo V8 as found in the Panamera Turbo and forthcoming Bentley Continental GT. Lichte tells us it will produce around 650bhp and nearly 600lb ft of torque. The engine will be mated to the latest eight-speed S-tronic gearbox, and drive will be channelled to all four wheels, in regular quattro fashion. Standstill to 60mph should take less than four seconds, and top speed is expected to be 190mph.

However, topping the RS7 line-up will be the first plug-in hybrid Audi performance car, which employs the same technology found in the Porsche Panamera Turbo S E-hybrid. Further development of the lithium-ion drive battery pack and electric motor power system will allow Audi to extract an extra 150bhp to add to the combustion engine’s output. It’s expected that the internal combustion engine’s output will be pegged back to 550bhp for the hybrid RS7, resulting in a total combined output of 700bhp.

C8 to get 700hp 'Hybrid' option

Post by doodlebug » Sat Sep 23, 2017 11:23 am

It’s going to uber expensive. And I bet they cheap out on the gearbox. I’d rather have the pork.

Downside with the hybrid is the weight, it’s going to be a lard bucket.

It will be a lard bucket haha that's class but the torque and tuning potential will be massive I reckon. I'm guessing the hybrid will be at least £20k more

If they take design cues from the new RS4, won't matter if the new RS6/7 have 1000BHP will still look crap.

Unfortunately Audi are just using the same parts on every model no matter what they are. Hence the really boring looks on the RS models now

Wasn't it much earlier than that with the C7? I know a larger release gap used to be the case with RS's, but something's telling me that changed with the C7?
From what I understand the C7 was launched in early 2011 and the RS was announced late 2012 but released early to mid 2013... although I could be wrong.
This seems about right https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Audi_A6. You could get an RS6 C7, as you say, mid 2013. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article ... 90mph.html

If the C8 is launched early 2018 then it should be safe to say the C8 RS6 will be at least 12 or so months after that. I'm going to put my money on a hybrid at 700bhp.

For information on dates: Audi had the C7 RS6 on show at Goodwood FOS in June, 2013, they lent me (a nice red) one to drive in the UK on the 15th, August (I had asked them at the FOS which was the better driver's car, the B8 RS4, out a year or the forthcoming C7 RS6, so they chose to lend me the former for a day, followed by the latter for the day - a bit more than I was expecting), but let me know if I am wrong, but UK customer deliveries didn't start until November, 2013.
