About to order (I think)

Hi,

So at that that time to change my car and I'm saying goodbye to my RS4 - which I've enjoyed loads. I've test driven the RS5 and whilst it was fast and a lovely place to sit it just didn't feel like an RS (the sound or lack of didn't help), i was going to wait for the new RS4 but will be very similar the the RS5 i think - so i've found my way to an new RS6 Performance - comparatively the monthly payments are pretty similar to a new RS5 (due to lack of contribution or deals on the RS5) -

A bit late to the party but here is the spec I am thinking for this RS6 Performance:

Nardo grey
21” x 9.5J ‘5-V-spoke’ star design black-gloss alloy wheels
Valcona leather honeycomb-quilted design with RS6 embossing on the front seats, Seats: Black with contrast stitching in grey (not sure the alcantara would stand upto the kids)
Carbon Inlays (not the blue one)
Parking Pack Advanced
Gloss black styling package
Panoramic glass sunroof
Advanced key with electric hands-free boot opening system
Smartphone Interface
Audi Connect and Audi Phonebox
Assistance Pack including Adaptive cruise control
Red brake calipers
Speed limit display
Sports suspension plus with Dynamic ride control (DRC)
Rear side airbags

Discount is around the same from what I've read people have achieved on the forum (and close to drive the deal) and trade in on the RS4 is 'ok' although I think I could do better privately.

The dealer has searched around for in stock/in production cars to see if one fits and the closest there is has a few extra options and piano black inlays rather than carbon - so i think a factory order is required - risk being that the dealer saying that Audi don't seem to be quick on assigning build weeks at the moment (whether due to German summer holidays or even riskier they will stop taking orders soon) e.g. he ordered one end of July and still waiting a build week.

Anything I'm missing (or don't need) or advice? Didn't think i would ever get an RS6 but with the offer available its extremely tempting - risk being it never materialises.

Thanks

I suspect orderbook closed. It was August last time they retooled for FL.

Hmm that what the dealer was suggesting - guess its try and get one in stock though or compromise/pay more

He was saying that 3 door a3's are no more either to make way for q2 popularity

There is no German summer holiday, production stays as normal and I was told the RS6 won't run out until December, so if they're not taking orders I would guess that the game is up, but I would advise that you talk to another dealer just in case. Mine is waiting at the dealer (coming out of an RS4) and I can't wait, I actually went for Piano as I'm bored of carbon, also went DRC but avoided the steering as it's crap on the 4 (IMHO).

Agree on the steering, 'saved' some money by not going full dynamic pack as 174mph and steering not required

There is a panther black RS6 performance at the dealer waiting to be picked up this week i think - looks really good - the new owner is coming from an RS4 as well.

If you haven't tried a dealer in the Jardine Group yet, drop me a PM and I'll put you in touch with the overall Head of Business there. He has access to every stock car in group and also what's coming through outside of group which he can allocate.

He's a top guy, no nonsense, who will cut excellent deals on stock cars. I bought my RS4 from him and I have put several in touch over the past few years here.

Good luck if you manage to get one - you will not be disappointed I'm sure. My pre FL had carbon inlays but when I upgraded to my PE I opted for piano black inlays. To be fair, and I know its personal choice but it looks a great deal smarter than the carbon in my opinion.

I don't have the sunroof, which I would have liked, but I think the Dynamic Pack will be good for re sale later down the line so don't discount it ; )

I find the Audi piano black interior trims scratch really easily. Not sure if any sort of cutting compound / polish can be used.

I had piano black trim in my RS4, over 6k miles and multiple 'fully loaded' family trips, personally I never had an issue with it scratching. I was very wary about it when I first got it, especially on the centre panel by the MMi buttons etc, but nothing (unless I was just very lucky) ever happened.

I also think it looks a lot classier than the carbon.

I was wondering if the piano black scratched easier although to date I've not had a problem and I had it in an earlier S3 without any problems. It is possible the carbon may scratch too but less evident due to the pattern.

Maybe the actual trims are made of sterner stuff then. I have the carbon trim in mine but there are still some parts covered in the gloss black and these scratch when you wipe them with a soft cloth.
Also I would presume the carbon trims are finished with a lacquer coat.

Each to there own but I dismissed any car that didn't have carbon when searching for mine.

When I bought my M4 new a few years ago I went for a physical car without carbon interior to save waiting, it was a ball ache come resale as everyone wanted the carbon!

Didn't make much difference on resale price but did limit the amount of buyers, just so you know.

I can't see the need or value in the Advanced Key and it seems its even an additional security risk (see other posts/forums). Buy a small can of Caliper Paint and its a simple matter to have Red Brake Calipers. Two changes and you have then saved enough to have the Head-up Display - much more useful, especially if you like to keep your eye on the road whilst driving.

Had piano black in 2 X5s and it was a total ball ache! Showed every little mark - personally, I'd stick with Carbon....
