Tyre Issue

Hi All,

Had my RS6 Performance for about 10 months now and it has just gone in for its first oil service, as part of the checks they've advised me that my front near side is down to 2.5mm and should be changed however the others are still at 5mm. Current done about 9k miles.

I've agreed to have the Tyre changed but I said for me having one Tyre with a lot more wear seems like a tracking/balance issue, the wear is in the middle of the Tyre which is more of an over inflation issue I was told. However as we know the car has a monitoring system which should warn of this type of issue.

About 6 months ago the system flagged up and said that front left was under inflated by about 3-4 PSI so i topped it to the same as the others, reset the system and all good, however if the Tyre is now over inflated surely the system should have either A. picked that up or B. maybe the Tyre was never under inflated and the system had a fault/glitch?

Does anyone know if the MMI has a recording function so the dealer can see the warnings that have occurred? and do i have anyway of proving that it could have been a system issue and ask Audi to pay for the Tyre?

Thanks

Jon

Faults should be logged.

However, more concerning that they've asked you to change one tyre. You need to change the pair on the same axle.

OK thanks, I've asked them for a report on the faults/warning.

Thanks for the other point, I didn't add they are having to do two as i got a nail in one yesterday, so they will swap so the two new ones will be on the same axle.

My tyres on my b8 had dropped nearly 10lbs with no flag up when it did discovered how far they were all out so system is largely useless old tpms was bang on in the b7

I must admit I largely ignore the motor system on my B8 RS4 and just do a regular manual pressure check

But that said tour system sounds like it faulty

Worth noting that any cars TPMS should only be used as a very very rough guide & proper inflation kit with a decent gauge are the best way forward. Can be had for about £30-40 all in & you'd be surprised at the difference between what the car states as the tyres pressures & what they actually are.

Most (i'm not sure how the C7 RS6's is set up but i'd guess the same as most other cars) will only alert you to a reasonable tyre pressure loss after a reset, so if the car's TPMS system was reset with pressures that were way over what they should be then you'd be none the wiser until they drop from what's been set.

Sounds to me like the tyre was not underinflated and you were misinformed by the tpms causing you to over inflate tyre and cause the premature wear. But pretty sure Audi will tell you this is to be used as a guide only.
