C7 RS6 alternatives
C7 RS6 alternatives
Currently (and once my C6 has sold) I'm in the market for another car that will be dual personal and business use (total around 15k miles). My default 'go to' choice is the C7 RS6 as it ticks so many boxes. Been corrupted by AWD after so many years with RWD and not being able to put power down anytime anywhere.
Are there any realistic alternatives? Needs to be comfortable so have (probably) ruled out Jag F-Type and GTR etc. There's always the C63s, M3/4 and Other M and AMG models buts it's back to RWD again and the constant flickering traction control light.
I'm drawn to the RS7 as well as they look awesome but have got very mixed (mostly negative) reviews and my worry is that when I shift it on in 2-3 years the resale will be affected. From the looks of it RS6's hold their value much more than RS7's.
my budget is up to £65k
Sometimes I wish I was boring and just get a diesel but I know I would bitterly regret that choice after my current and former rides. Life's for living etc.
Any inputs?

Re: C7 RS6 alternatives
Well, loved the looks of the RS6 (and yes, should be the 'cream de la cream' in its class)...but after ticking all my wanted options (ceramics, saftey options, etc...) i decided to take it's little brother...the S6 C7. Basicly you get the same car and almost identical engine (other trans). But with a tune and exhaust, you end up with an even more powerfull sleeper then a stock rs6. Running around 570hp-800nm with milltek, ceramics and most needed wissles and bells. Fact it almost looks as a normal diesel a6 but it doesn't draws unwanted attention (cops and burglars)....but hit the gass and it smokes most rivals of the RS
.

Re: C7 RS6 alternatives
I'm clearly going to say the F10 M5 as a like for like replacement (albeit different in many ways) or if wanting new/new then the soon to be released (G30) M5 looks like ti could be epic. Also the new E63S looks to be a bit of a monster.
RWD traction will always be somewhat of an issue in poorer conditions with these German power cars, but the flip side of that is the more involving drive. As an example, i had very little issue with traction in my M5 & it was far from standard power/torque, however i had the 19" wheels which many found far better than the 20" options. Also the MPSS tyres were far better than those cars supplied with the P Zeros.
GT-R will of course offer up the performance & exceptional traction, but could grate as a daily driver.
Personally if having to replace a C7 RS6 today i'd opt for the new E63S or if i could wait the new G30 M5.

Re: C7 RS6 alternatives
Noooo!
If it is just about the money, my bet is a S6 with ceramics, exhaust etc will depreciate more than a RS6 and could end up costing you the same / more. And it is not as good a car, re-map or not.

Re: C7 RS6 alternatives
Have to agree with that one...I need to think trade in value a few years down the line and the RS6 will knock the S6 out of the park all day long in that regard. Look at C6 RS6/S6 prices for example.

Re: C7 RS6 alternatives
I am not so sure. There were huge discounts available on S6s when I bought my RS6. I have a recollection of 22%, whilst I had to struggle to get 10% on the RS6. If only I had waited another year, it seems there are hefty discounts on the RS6 now, so there may be even better deals on the S6.
One thing I noted was that, whilst nobody seems to want to buy a new S6, there are very sought after second-hand. I think that is because people don't realise how heavily they are discounted new, so they actually had very strong residuals (once you factored in the discount)
However, I don't think you are ever going to get back anything for the ceramics; they are just not a core S6 owner requirement.
Re: C7 RS6 alternatives
Don't rule out a GTR - unless you need adults in the back regularly. Aside from that quite practical and a good cruiser.
Small fuel tank but similar MPG so fuel stops are more regular, comfy inside, especially later models with better seats. Decent boot.
Having just come from one I miss it - I did get a lot of attention though - and I mean a lot!! But mine was far from std.
My alternatives were M5 or M6 gran coupe... never had a BMW but audi pulled me back in!

However, I'd be prepared for a big step back in interior quality with a GTR.

Re: C7 RS6 alternatives
I think all of these comments really re-enforce my own. I feel the C7 RS6 is all things to all men. Comfy as when you need it, fast as when you want it, involving (to a point for what it is) when you want to drive, gearbox a good set-up for what everybody might want out of this car, good to sit in, good to look at. I acknowledge that its age is now making people look at the alternatives with AWD like the new E63 and M5 and I cant comment because I have no experience of them. As for RS6 vs S6, the RS looks the business, the S6 looks OK - until its parked next to an RS and you realise you married the wrong sister!

Re: C7 RS6 alternatives
Although i in the main enjoyed my GT-R, as a daily driver the RS/AMG/M are a far better proposition.E14STO wrote: ↑Wed Mar 08, 2017 1:06 pmDon't rule out a GTR - unless you need adults in the back regularly. Aside from that quite practical and a good cruiser.

The attention mine drew went from interesting to boring to darn right frustrating within a few months & i'm glad to see the back of that aspect. Rear seats are virtually unusable which is comical given how big the actual car is.
Performance wise it's epic, but most others aspects are lacking somewhat. I still state like JG says about Alfa's, every petrolhead should at least have one for a period of time as it's on track capabilities are almost mind blowing & more so if it's fettled.

Re: C7 RS6 alternatives
Agreed - it's easier to slip to the shops in the RS but I didn't have problems with the GTR, 15000 miles in 18 months, 350 round commutes to work.
Not done the commute yet in the audi though...
Mine didn't have nav, rev cameras or iPod connect either and it was still ok for me. Performance trumped all that...
Alfa Guilia - an option I think. Nice

Re: C7 RS6 alternatives
Never had problems with mine, but got sick & tired of all the yoofs shouting "nice car Mr" & every <beep> in a hot hatch feeling as though they had to race you. I bought mine for the 'need to try this performance' however the look, build quality & interior soon made me look elsewhere, but they i'm knocking on a bit now so need creature comforts.E14STO wrote: ↑Wed Mar 08, 2017 2:54 pmAgreed - it's easier to slip to the shops in the RS but I didn't have problems with the GTR, 15000 miles in 18 months, 350 round commutes to work.
