First VCDS Auto Scan

[HDPete]

I'm really impressed with the speed of the Auto Scan in VCDS with the HEX V2 cable (2.5 minutes). I've done an initial scan and there are a few errors stored. Do I need to worry about any of them? Some seem to have occurred at the factory (as no date stamp is stored).

Would the next step be to clear the codes and re-scan before heading off to tweak anything?

Any idea how to enable the rip from CD on the facelift? It seems that the hidden menu isn't accessible so can't do it that way.

I haven't seen a way to access the hidden menu on facelift yet.

But just rip to an SD card or usb drive when you get home.

The lovely fog mode.....got this on my 2016 model. It messes with the camera system and radar (if you got the safety assist). Went to Reading to get it fixed and they reset it after the bulletin told them how to take it out of fog mode. Trouble is the car then goes back into fog mode and then back to dealer to fix. The symptoms are; high beam assist not working with on-coming vehicles, speed limit display incorrect values and crash mitigation goes into melt-down.
Audi is fully aware of this and should have fixed this as I brought it to their attention over a year ago. As for my car, had to reject it as it had 24 faults and it tried to kill me and my family when the crash mitigation put the car into emergency stop on the outside lane of the duel carriageway for no reason. The good thing is there is no way to over-ride the crash mitigation so the car behind was a little close to rear ending me. After the third time it did it I had had enough. The dealer said they could not find a fault....trouble is the system does not provide a fault code or give indication of system activated, so there is no fault right! The dealer did admit that both front and rear sensors can only be found to work or not once you have had the accident. Interestingly, new models in the Audi range now have an over-ride in the MMI (Q7,new Q5 etc) but not RS6 or RS6 performance.
Don't worry too much about the codes, just drive and enjoy the car. Hope yours is a good one.

On RS6s if you have the safety assist pack you have the radar on the front bumper (black circles in both side vents) and this detects moving objects in front of the car. The radar is used for the brake assist and cruise control etc. If you have the car running and walk in front of the car the radar and camera picks up that there is a moving object (much like the parking sensors). Leaves blowing across the front of the car will do it too. Oddly this system is rather flawed and mini-roundabouts, kerbs, rain and mud will set it off too. This system is fitted to all VW Group cars and many owners have been caught out by it. The last main press piece was in The Sunday Times money section last August where a VW driver was having problems with it on their Passat.

If the system worked properly it would be a life saver but it does not hence the new model/updated model cars have over-rides in the MMI. Why would they have this if it worked properly? Ask yourself when you are lucky enough to go to the Audi track experiences, do the RS6s have the safety assist pack on them?

I brought this to the attention of Audi last year and asked them what would happen if you were on a track day/track race and the system went off? They never answered the question, they just said they would pass on all comments to the relevant departments. I talked to Pistonheads and What Car? about it and both never ran the story (even though it is in the public domain already). Autocar is thinking about it. I took it up with DVLA and VSBC at VOSA but they said it was very difficult to force car manufactures to recall their cars on safety systems. It is just frightening how no one really wants to look into this. Perhaps the recent story with Skoda and the chap who was killed on the M40 when his cruise control system was (allegedly) faulty put the mockers on it.

I love these cars but am not happy with the amount of systems that they now have on them, hence why I like my B5 RS4 so much.

That's what I was referring to as brake assist. I just looked up the proper name, it is brake gaurd that I was talking about and that is what I thought I could turn off from the MMI. But I might be getting confused now. I'll check which system I can change in the MMI tomorrow.

Do you have the radar on the front bumper side vents? If so, you can't turn it off as it over-rides the brake guard settings in the MMI.

Yes I have the assistance pack, I don't think you can specify brake guard without the assistance pack as it uses the radars. Isn't the collision mitigation you are talking about the same as brake guard?
